Years ago I dated a guy who had in his possession a cd entitled "Songs That Make You Want To Love" --which is awesome--and the soundtrack included "Easy Like Sunday Morning" by the class act Faith No More. For the record, that song doesn't make me want to do anything but shop at Albertsons and/or ride in an elevator for an extended period of time. If you are wondering about this "guy" with this seedy "cd" just know that there was a curb and some kicking on my behalf.
Enter: Chup.
I only mention this because yesterday--and I am not kidding here--was the best Sunday morning I've ever had. As it turns out, the Devil inspired the person in charge of making building arrangements for our church house, and so we start our meetings at
I had no official meetings to go to yesterday, so I stayed in bed until
Chup ate the pancakes with his EYES CLOSED, because MMMMMM they were SO GOOD. And while he was having love with Brenda's Pancakes I started to work on another craft. I am suddenly crafty this season and I've been making do-dads for my Christmas tree. An inner voice warned, "Don't do crafts on the Sabbath" and that was when I picked up some Super Glue (where Elmers would've sufficed) to glue a ribbon onto an ornament, and instead, glued my fingers to the Super Glue bottle on one hand, and on the other, I glued my fingers together. Like really seriously glued them stuck. I started screaming. I thought about having to go to church with the Super Glue cemented to my fingertips. I worried that someone might ask me to lead the music. Imagine that!
Chup acted fast and tenderly helped me unpeel my fingers from whence they were bound. I learned my lesson though, no crafts on the Sabbath. Write that one down in your book of daily thoughts and pleasures.
I had to lie down after all that small, but significant tragedy, so I sat in the sun and read from the Good Word. Chup sat beside me and mocked my recent experience. This continued into Sacrament Meeting as my constant peeling of glue off my fingers distracted his devoted watching of the Primary Program.
The Primary Program is the best. We are still trying to understand why "Scripture Power" is number ONE on the Primary Music Top 40 Countdown, but the kids are loving it these days. I still prefer "Book of Mormon Stories" what with it's Native American-inspired tom-tom beat. Ri-ght-eous-ly.
Ok so I haven't really done a good job at explaining why yesterday morning was so sweet. This is maybe why I didn't do so well at writing papers in college. Sticking to the thesis was never my strong suit.
Brenda's Pancakes
1 1/2 cup white or whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 milk (I do Vanilla Soy Milk)
3 tbsp. butter
Sift flour, mix and sift all dry ingredients. Beat eggs, add milk and butter. Mix liquid with dry ingredients slowly so there will be no lumps.

24 Pieces of Opinion:
will you make me brenda's pancakes on christmas eve? yum. whats the christmas verdict anyhow? ID or UT?
UTAH!
Also, love the photos of me and Nickleby. He is SO ADORABLE!
That is why acetone or nail polish remover with acetone is a must have for situations involving superglue.
I will no longer bemoan our 12:00 church slot.
Where was that recipe when I was on my mission? I made pancakes loads of times, but hunger pains were the only reason to eat them.
I printed out "Brenda's Pancakes" but the title didn't print, so I hand-wrote "cjane's pancakes" at the top. Can't wait to partake.
Can you READ about doing crafts on the Sabbath? Or will you get a paper cut?
Back when you and I( kinda) shared a bishop, we had 2pm church. I look back on those times and wonder how people with kids managed that disaster of a time slot. Thankfully, a very loud tenor projecting over the voices of the entire audience made it all worth it.
And I thought it was laziness that stopped me from crafting yesterday...
i have a 2pm time slot -- it is the worst part of my life. I honestly think that it should be banned because anyone with a slightly wavering testimony (meaning you go to church every sunday with two+ insane children so that you are constantly wondering why you are there in the first place) will start to slack off and not go about 4 months into the year.
also, cjane -- seriously, i'm on this damn raw foods diet and am having a hard enought ime without delicious pancake recipes being thrown in my face!!
Pancakes and the primary program. You can't beat that for good times or alliteration.
We had the primary program (my daughter and two boys with the nursery kids as back-up singers) and a Linger Longer with cookies and milk.
Good Sabbath all around, I'd say.
I still have a scar on my hand from a bad super glue experience. Glad yours worked out.
Scripture Power is a cult like song, I swear the children's eyes glaze over whilst singing it. It makes me laugh watching my CTR 8s sing it (Please remember as one pointed out to me, 'it isn't 'CTW' Choose the Wrong') God Bless the 8 year olds....we keep in real in the primary!
Yum on the pancakes!
faith no more/ The Real Thing was a bad break-up for me...
guess HE wasn't the real thing.
har dee har har
I love of the pictures of you and your new nephew Mr.Nicholas! Is he your fathers doppelganger or what? I also love class act bands that remake classic songs....especially Ministry's version of Lay Lady Lay. D'oh.
Oh my gosh. By the end of this post I was practically praying that you were going to include the recipe.
I can actually taste real maple syrup over the real butter that's melted on top.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
you should have see in the kid in the front row during our program who beaned himself in the head while hoisting his Dad's Quad during scripture power. Ask Lucy, it was great.
My daughter has asked for pancakes every morning for the past month. Can't wait to try these. Thanks.
I-D-A-H-O!!
Guess who sat on Lucy's lap during our The Primary Program. One curly-headed little Curly. I didn't see the near-miss with the quad, though...that's what I get for sitting in the wayback. Li'l ~j. had a solo (which turned into a duet and they were screaming into a broken microphone) AND had to give the talk in primary that day. And then I went home for a three-hour nap. Good Sunday for me, too, even though we meet 1-4.
Easy Like Sunday Morning reminds me of a Spongebob episode where he has really bad breath. Not unlike myself at this time.
I love! pancakes. Thanks for the recipe, I will try them.
Thanks for the recipe. By the time I make all my necessary substitutions these won't be quite the same hotcakes, but hopefully still transcendant.
We had our Primary Karaoke a few weeks ago, and it was our most wailin' program to date. Rock on, Sunbeams!
Don't say, "UTAH!"
You are right Kentucky. I need to apologize for that previous outburst which was induced by my sister's announcement that she is coming to Utah for Christmas.
I stand corrected:
UTAH! AND IDAHO!
Okay, you are forgiven.
