It's my birthday week and well, I'd like to brag.
Angie, my fellow Segullah Sister highlighted my first published essay "Infertility and Fulfillment" yesterday on the Blog Segullah forum. The writers at Segullah are intelligent polished women for whom I am grateful to share printed space. Thanks for the honor Ang!
Read the discussion here.
Read my essay here.
To carry on with my bragging, I want to point out that Sunstone, the Great I AM of Mormon intellectual, cultural, spiritual, social and artistic literary discussion and reporting has had my "Modest About Modesty" linked on their "Of Good Report" sidebar (linked as: Fun Fashion at Segullah: A little cleavage never hurt anyone!) Which I think means that they liked it, they really, really liked it.
As a side note: the great Mormon philosopher and writer Eugene England first introduced me to the Sunstone society, and although I only earned a B in his Mormon Lit class, I think he'd be glad to know that his prestigious institution gave a tiny nod in my direction. That is what I'd like to think.
What? Did you think I would stop there? Yesterday www.cjanerun.com was off the charts with stats. 2,772 page loads with 988 unique visitors! Holy flapjacks and happy gravy! Of course I owe it all to those who participated (either by posting or by linking) to our intriguing Theme Day activity. Thank you one, and thank you all. Now that I am a professional blogger (because I have ads-you know) traffic is what keeps food in Ralph's bowl. And not just the cheap Costco brand that causes sea green/yellow mounds all over the backyard, I mean the real chunky dog food that crawling babies like to eat! So again, THANK YOU!
Last of all, I had the honor of babysitting niece Phoebe and nephew Hugh while Chris and Lisa jet setted off to yet another film festival in California (la-tee-da) and while making lunch for the little critters, Chup and I had a very serious discussion about the use of bread on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (a run-on! a run-on! I write the best run-ons!) I like Great Harvest Honey Whole Wheat, he likes a thick Texan White Bread, that for non-nonsensical reasons, he ate a lot of in Japan. He will not eat raspberry jam because of the seeds, but I say bring it on. I am seedy that way.
And this is where I ask, how do you like your pb&j?

I'm with you--PB&J on a good piece of whole wheat bread (even better if it's warm and homemade).
Congrats on all your literary success! Is a book next?
I prefer AB&J, as in Almond Butter with my Grandma's strawberry jam, for I too do not like the seeds of raspberry jam.
Also, I really enjoyed reading your essays, as provided by your links. You really inspire me! I feel as though I should get a trendy red Gap tee that says INSPI(RED) and underneath that write in "by cjane"!
I don't usually eat PB&J. Although about once I year I do get a hankering for it and it has to be on white bread with grape jelly.
On a side note, last night I dreamt that my husband got a job at BYU and we had to move to Provo. We don't really ever want to live in Provo or work for BYU (no offense to you Provo people---but you probably never want to live in Lincoln, NE so we're even). But, back to my dream. Anyway, you were giving me a tour of Grandpa Nelson & Marion's house and telling me all the virtues of wicker furniture and bright colors. It was awesome.
Christy that is awesome.
c jane just read your modesty posting at Segullah. It was (as always) amazing. There must be something wrong with me, but I enjoyed the naughty idea of teaching Relief Society wearing a leather skirt with tall boots and fishnetty tights. Is the Gospel any less true? I think not!
As far as sammys I would have to say I also like the GHB honey whole wheat with homemade raspberry freezer jam. (and yes I even make it sometimes, however usually not in a leather skirt or fishnetty tights!)
i like grandma sycamore's white bread with chunky Jif and strawberry jam. deeee-lish.
ps. i would love an advanced copy of your book AND i'm sorry for being insensitive about fertility. i really am.
More peanut butter than jelly, ALWAYS. And my faves for the fruity spread are apricot, raspberry (I also don't mind the seeds), and apple butter. YUM.
p.s. Where do you go to view your stats and visitors count? That's pretty COOL.
I like my PB and J with Strawberry Jam, and lots of it. Not the smooth kind either, the chunky berries in it yum.
Your b log is awesome!!!
Holy bloggeriffic! We have the makings of a cult.
Or in other words, yield yourselves up unto cjane and chup, and unite with them and become acquainted with their blogging works, and become their brethren and sisters that ye may be like unto them—not their raving fans, but as their partners of all their blogginess.
Leave the jam/jelly in the jar and get out the honey. Put it on my wife's homemade bread...as Cari said, fresh and warm is good and yummy.
Great Harvest Honey Whole Wheat and their perfectly perfect 5 ingredients that I've never ever been able to replicate ever. Adams totally have to stir with a wooden spoon creamy peanut butter, and chunky chunky strawberry freezer jam from my own freezer.
I'm going to go make one right now. Thanks for making me hungry!
Rock on, CJane! You definitely have a gift. The infertility essay and subsequent discussion were incredible. Reading your work makes me feel calm and at peace because I realize "hey we're all in this boat together!" P.S. I like honey whole wheat, natural peanut butter and strawberry jam (raspberry on occasion).
Whoo-hoo congrats on all the hits! (I have to say, my little blog had a HUGE spike in hits, thanks to your lovely Theme Day!)
I can't wait to go and read your essay.
I heart raspberry jam, and I like to kind of gnaw on the seeds. Chunky peanut butter can be yummy -but creamy is just as delightful.
I love a good slice of GH HWW but for a PB&J sandwhich it tends to be a little TOO filling. Tuna Yes! PB&J on GH HWW No.
I do subscribe to Granny Syc's HWW and Adams' PB....as far as the J is concerned I DOOO love a seedless rasPberry anytime of the day.
Seedless rasPberry is the best on homemade pancakes, waffle's or any variety of toast.
word verification : rkypapid
They do make seedless raspberry jam now, you know. Let CK know. It might blow his mind.
1. Peanut Butter, honey, banana on whole wheat.
2. Peanut Butter, apricot, on wheat.
3. Tuna salad, no PB&J, pref hazelnut 12 grain--YUM.
i like pb&honey.com
Was the thing about writing the best run-ons the fourth brag? Or was it babysitting? Or sandwiches?
EVERYBODY who has ever ventured near your self or your blog knows what a star you are. Congratulations!
Are you eating dairy again?
WWB with pb and raspberry freezer jam cut into triangles.
Okay. Just read your "Infertility and Fulfillment" essay. It was a great read. I think you should really write that book! I think everyone should have it as a reference, because as much as I'd like to think I've always been sensitive about certain things -(especially since a dear sister of mine had a lot of problems of a similar nature, only she could get pregnant very easily...but carrying the baby to full term, proved to be impossible for her)-I know I've also said a lot of stupid things in my day.
Anyway, I think I'll go have me a PB&J.
I'm all into the seedy bread....whole wheat of course. And lets not forget Adam's Peanut Butter, the kind you have to stir yourself!
Adams is my FAVORITE kind of peanut butter!
OK, I might be the only person on here who has said that pb sandwiches have to be on grandma sycamore's WHITE bread with homemade strawberry freezer jam oh, and the peanut butter must be adams-in-the-fridge. i eat my pb&j on WW bread every day but i long for the white bread. so if i had my druthers...there she'd be.
umm i was just thinking, so does that tracker track how many times a certain person checks your page in one day???
i think i am busted.
woohoo on those stats! holy moly.
pb&honey on any yummy bread.
your infertility essay made me feel warm...happy....peaceful...
and oh yes, you will in fact be meeting me soon. i am so excited for the program i can hardly sleep.
To Kelly: Oh Goodie and I am sure my super stats are a Sunday afternoon for your popular blog/hang out.
To Noelle: Thanks for the admission
To Lee: Welcome to this land of c jane and plenty!
To Everyone else: I loved reading your versions of the classic pb&j. Props to those who mentioned homemade bread, as that is the way the world should be.
To those who asked about stats: Go to statcounter.com and get a free account. WARNING: You might become obsessed. Don't say you weren't warned.
To Lyle: You and my friend La Yen have got to win an award sometime for the most clever commentors. Infact, consider yourself awarded.
And also, thanks to those who read my essay. I was so young then, so young and un-published, pre-blogged and post-pubescent. It was a tender time...
I remember that essay CJane, it was great.
Am I the only one here who hates PB and J (or PB and H). Always did. I am not sure why, but it does give me the dry heaves...
I am so glad that Chris and Lisa got to go to the festival. How fun that you got to have the little ones. They are cute little kids.
Holy stats miss professional blogger. Do you get paid by the page load or if they click on the ad? I never understood how that worked. How great is it that your ad right now is for baby chickens?
Homemade whole wheat bread (tooting my own horn here: grind the wheat myself toot toot) with JIF PB and homemade strawberry freezer jam. MMM I'm hungry!
29 freakin' comments just about PB & J. Is there anything you can't do C Jane? Maybe tommorow asking us for our opinions on watching paint dry?...
BTW - crunchy peanut butter (JIF) mixed together prior to spreading with raspberry jam on Grandma Sycamore white bread.
Make that 30 comments.
Because it's just that kind of a week.
Congrats!
Kudos!
Way to go!
You're the best!
At great risk of being disowned by you (you know, I already came out about not shopping frequently enough at Target) I have to say I don't like PB&J.
I do not like them in a car.
I do not like them at a bar.
I do not like them in my house.
I do not like them with my spouse.
I prefer natural, local honey.
MMM. Maybe that'll be for lunch today. For me it's definitely wheat bread (the REALLY good stuff if it's been on sale), creamy pb, homemade strawberry jam (if I haven't used it all up out of my freezer yet), and to kick it up a bit, I love to put plain potato chips inside it. CRRRRRRRRRUNCH!! Seriously! Try it, you'll LOVE it!!
I love my bread (honey whole wheat as well) toasted. It makes the peanut butter warm and oh so yummy. I prefer a good raspberry jam. I do love the seeds. My grandma makes a killer homemade raspberry jam. I have discovered that I also love red plum jam. I love PB&J!
i prefer pb and banana myself - lightly toast some multi-grain bread and spread with natural peanut butter and sliced, slightly green bananas... mmm mmm good... :-)
Wendy: Yes on the potato chips.
Jodi: Slightly green bananas? Very interesting. (also thanks for stopping by!)
I prefer organic sprouted wheat bread with crunchy peanut butter and ONLY my homemade raspberry jam. I love the seeds!
Happy Birthday Week CJane!
I love...toasted wheat bread (cut off the edges) lightly buttered and then strawberry jam... my Mom's frozen homemade is best.
ps. Nice cookies... my fav... Samoas.
I prefer wheat bread to white but do prefer white for my PB&J's (childhood nostalgia) sans seedy jams (they just get stuck in thy teeth). Strawberry jam my daddy makes is my fav but I do like the raspberry sans seeds or the rare huckleberry because I likes me to say "I'll be your huckleberry!"
I'm gonna have to go with homemade whole wheat, crunchy natural PB with apricot jam or creamy honey.
40 comments! What is it, your birthday? Just on PB&J...
I always carefully prepared pb&j for family by thinly spreading pb on one side of the bread (white because that is what my husband preferred and he bought the groceries)and more generously on the other. Then jam of some sort in between.
Now I have come to realize that it makes for a very messy sandwich. So now I spread pb on just one side and the jam on the other which soaks into the bread and is much less messy. Course my children no longer lives at home, my husband usually makes his own sandwiches now and I eat pb&j so seldom anymore that I usually forget that I use a different recipe.
I like PB&Js in so many different ways. I like Goobers on fake French bread and on real French bread. I like to mix strawberry jelly with peanut butter for other white bread, and on yummy freshly baked whole wheat bread, I like real peanut butter, i.e., the Adam's variety, and honey. YUMMM!!! I want me some that.
