Blogging instead of Christmas Cards and now! Scrapbooking

Picture of the day: Hangover picture, again

Chup and I met with another couple tonight at our house. As we were discussing business I noticed that the wife continued to look around my home from her view on my couch. I kept shifting in my chair wondering what her eyes were telling her brain. Finally she said,

"You must be a great scrapbooker."

To which I replied,

"I am not."

To which she replied,

"You should scrapbook. You'd be great."

To which I replied,

"Actually, I just blog instead."

To which her husband butted in, pointed to me, and said,

"Ahh! I thought you'd be a blogger."

But what does that even mean? And are scrapbooking and blogging now acceptably interchangeable? I hope so, because nothing gives me the anxiety like thinking of The Scrapbook. Even as I type this, the air in my lungs is disappearing in small huffs and my pits are starting to produce salty liquid. I've got one scrapbook that I stopped working on two Decembers ago. There are still blank pages left waiting for decor. What do I do with it? Don't answer that.

No, do.

No, don't.

I think I'm choking.

So in this spirit, I have decided to adopt an excellent idea from my friend Jill who takes a picture of her life every day. It'll be a new feature on my blog. Plus, no die cuts.

What are die cuts?

Whatever.

20 Pieces of Opinion:

I have a whole stack of pictures I've been meaning to scrapbook. I started the pile three years ago. The thought of THE SCRAPBOOKS gives me an ulcer. Kind of like the idea of blogging with an eye toward making a scrapbook out of my blog posts. If I was gonna do that, I would have to stop talking so much about myself and talk a little more about the kids probably.

Here's the deal:

I could scrapbook. I could kick all your lovin' scrapbook butts. My scrapbooks would be awesome, practically beyond comprehension.

Why? Because I cannot do a design that is half way, and I have the eye. If I were to start scrapbooking, it would consume my life from the need to make it perfect. I cannot take that chance.

So, for you, for me, for my family, I dash a few words off on a blog now and then.

You're welcome.

Scrapbooking is not a right- it is a privilege. Many people "think" they are good scrapers, but they aren't. And I don't have the heart to tell them they are ruining their pictures. Hence, I do not scrapbooking. I do not possess the creative ability. I instead keep all our pictures in albums from Target. My pictures couldn't be more grateful. They don't get hacked at.

And die cuts does sound a little violent, don't you think? Not only do you die, but then you get cut up afterwards? I will definitely pass on scrapbooking.

I'm new to your blog, but I want to first say that I loved your Christmas song. It was hilarious. I completely agree with you about scrapbooking. My sisters are serious scrappers. I have tried and tried, but I just can't seem to do it. It stresses me out. I love Design Mom's post about making a book out of your blog posts. Perfect for me. Thanks for the wit each day. You are good.

Oh blogging totally can replace scrapbooking! In fact I made a blog dedicated soley to my in utero baby that will be printed off into a book and thusly called The Baby Book. Why bother with paper and glue when you can do it digitally?

I just put 3-4 picks on a page and call it good. I also prefer 3x5 over 4x6 as you can fit 3-4 pics on a page. I don't write anything on the page either. I just buy the package of however many sheets that are colored and call it good.

You do what you feel is best for you. My cousins have taken up the digital scrapbooking. Since you are so handy with a computer it might work well for you.

Try picasa.com my friend used this site to make a wedding book.

I'm out on scrapbooking. Only because when I have done it, my pages end up looking like my kids did them.

My blog is my scrapbook. Someday, I'll publish it on one of those cool blog publishing sites.

I love the idea of a daily life picture. This will be fun.

P.S.
I just learned how to use a die cut machine at my kids' school this year....let's just say, the die cut must die!

I also started a 365 picture blog, also inspired by dear Jill. It is as close as I'll get to scrapping. And it'll have to do.

I don't scrapbook and never will. I would rather look at all of my pictures in rectangular shapes instead of stars, hearts, and triagles, and enjoy them in a nice big book instead of covered in corny phrases etc. Simplicity. Plus there was a woman in my ward growing up who was obsessed with scrapbooking and I couldn't stand her, thus another reason why I'll never scrapbook.

whit ing's comment makes me think of why i don't participate in ward choir.

as far as blogging replacing scrapbooking, for me it did, sadly. but i do incorporate a lot of digital scrapbooking elements so that might be cheating. i do miss the smell of rubber cement though...

I'm allergic to scrapbooking.

I mean it.

We don't get a long on any level.

Blogging is the answer.

Amen.

I have loads of scrapbooks...but I hate "foof" so they are mainly one great picture and my thoughts/feelings about said picture...oh wait! That IS just like blogging! (seriously, I just turn my blog into a book every year and call my family history complete!)

Your frirnd's blog is smart! Love it...

Blogging replaces all sorts of things in my life. If people in real life (as opposed to blog life) ask me a question I have previously answered somewhere on my blog, I tell them to check my blog. Seriously. Do I have to keep repeating myself?

I don't have to talk on the phone, email, or socialize at all if I don't want to. But, then I wouldn't have anything to blog about so it is a real Catch 22 (a book I haven't read but seem to use the phrase too much).

Dear Christy,
Bingo!

Totally copying that picture a day idea. Because to me, the essence of creativity is knowing a good idea when I see one.

I do not scrapbook because I don't want to. I have a few mom friends who do it because they feel they "should" which I think is ridiculous. Life should probably be chronicled somehow, especially as kids are growing, but some kind of journal or photo album or blog or something is fine, in my opinion. Nothing against scrapbookers -- just do what you enjoy!

Did you really say, "...my pits are starting to produce a salty liquid"? Your pits produce salty liquid? I kind of thought they might produce Diet Pepsi.

Are you sure you are a Mormon? I'll bet next thing ya know, you will be telling us you don't have a garden either. Blasphemy!

Kentuck,
The challenge is on! You find an alternative way to say "I was sweating in my pitts." and then I will see if I can top it.

I thought about saying a salty paste by-the-way. Pitt sweat is more pasty in my opinion.
