Girl Can't Help It

So the other night I had a conversation with my brother Matt. He asked me a question that would've easily been answered if he had faithfully been reading my blog. So I said,

"Come on! Don't you read my blog?"

And he said,

"Um. I just like blogs with pictures, not a lot of words."

Thinking of him, I took Chup's camera to our new house inspection this afternoon. I shot two pictures of our funky-delicious house before the battery flat-lined.

It really bummed me out.

When we headed out the door Chup coaxed the camera to give up one last shot. It's the one above of me in my awesome orange tunic. The other pics turned out looking like blur. A literal blur.

Sorry Matt.

But I need to know, don't you think my new retro-riot house needs a wallpaper-ed wall like this?

Also, does your family read your blog?

And lastly, was I the last person to discover Yael Naim?

Our blog is "The Moncurs" but one half of our marital partnership doesn't even read it, much less contribute. 2 guesses which half it is.

Kayla, you just made this woman chuckle aloud.

You win. Whatever you want.

My husband will read posts when I mention his name.
But, my brother has NO care about the inner workings of my mind.
I think it's because he knows the truth about me. No matter how much I doctor up my life to seem interesting, I'm still just his annoying little sister.

My parents are too cool for blogging; they could not care less.

One of my siblings reads. Two cousins.

NO in-laws.

I'm so happy that House is in good hands.

I don't even know you and I read your blog! You're SO entertaining!!! pictures or not.
and NO, my husband refuses to participate in this blogging business...his loss, that's what I say.

Warning: delurker about to comment.

I’ve only been blogging for a few months, but am intrigued by the irony of (sometimes) random strangers knowing the intimate details of my life that I (usually) freely reveal and yet I can’t get my own sisters to read my blog!!!!!?!!!!! I suppose not everyone views an internet connection as an extension of their being like I do, but still …..

Item 1. That wallpaper is freakin cool.
Item 2. My family does not read my blog unless I specifically ask them to and send them the link. Then I think they might take a peek. My husband does read it though.
Item 3. I've never heard of that Yael guy.

Kelly, perhaps you have found the real reason why Matt doesn't read my blog. Good point.

Azucar, your parents are too cool for a lot of things. And too smart. (I wanna be just like them.)

ll, his loss indeed. What is this husband aversion to blogging. Would it kill them? Maybe.

Frumpy luv, no truer statement ever uttered. My family is always saying to me "my neighbor told me that you are _________ and I didn't even know." And I say "that is because your neighbor takes two minutes out of his/her day to check on old c jane. Two minutes. And your are so right about the internet being an extension of me. It's basically the best invention ever on this planet.

Katrina, will you be my new "yes" man (except a woman?)

The only family to read my blog are my husband, my brother in law and my sister in law. NO ONE else. Too bad for them, otherwise they would've been in on our big news about a baby boy instead of having to wait a whole week!

Tharker said...

My in laws all read my blog. My husband's parents do not have the internet, but when my father in law does his weekly library run, he spends a good hour checking all of our blogs. That makes me laugh.

No one in my family cares about blogging. And I'm okay with that.

Are you a new soul now that you have discovered Yael Naim? Love her! But, I must confess that I never would have heard of her if I didn't read Marilyn or Danyelle's blogs.

You must have that wallpaper. It is fabulous!!

My brother and his wife are the only family who read my blog. The rest of them just refuse to acknowledge my brilliance.

Never heard of Yael Naim, thanks for the link.

the exact people I started the blog for DO NOT READ IT!! That would be my parents, sisters, and in-laws. all of whom are high speed. And my husband doesn't read though his co-workers are my regulars. Even my SISTER's in-laws read my blog!! funny, hey?
Yael Naim. What are you doing during the Apple sliver-of-a-laptop commercials? that's how I found her.

Ironically, MY brother Matt does NOT read my blog, and he lives far far away and so he really should and it would only take him, like, 10 minutes A WEEK, but he obviously doesn't care about anyone but himself, which is how he's always been, and I don't even care, anyway. So there.

(Matt and I have teensy issues. Or just I do. Matt probably never has the word issues cross his mind.)

All my family reads my blog: mom, dad, sister, brother, in-laws, grandparents, aunts uncles, ect.

It can be a little overwhelming at times...

Matthew said...

Do the "Matisse-ish" wallpaper. It will go with everything.
My family pro actively ignores my blog. Even when I send links by email. They only read or look if I post about my children.

I have heard once or twice, "I don't even get what your righting about", or "you're weird" or "thanks for sharing (sarcastically)". I think it's because I try to say things about how I feel about the world around me, even if it's contrary. To many people, blogs are for family journaling only. As my best friend calls the, family "brags".

After all, I am the youngest child, the black sheep, the lone artist, and lone evil liberal in my family. So they do their best NOT to support the crazy ramblings of their "lefty" little brother.

Thank you, therapy group! I feel better now.

Send Matt to my blogs, lots of words, but lots of pictures too!

I'm pretty sure my husband almost never reads my blog. I don't usually blog about anything he wants to hear. That is fine with me.

My mom and one brother check my blog, but my other brother says he will only check it when the post is about him. He's vain like that.

I discovered Yael Naim in December and posted about her in January, maybe you need a new mix CD?? I will bring it when I visit!

MarySue said...

As a "senior" blogger, I started my blog specifically for my 6 kiddos. I can count on 1 daughter to regularly read it. Oouch. 2 DIL are pretty regular readers. I enjoy reading you and NieNie too.

This family reading blogs issue is a passionate one. These comments range from the comical to the sad. What fun!

Marilyn, if you posted about her then I've seen her before and have just forgotten.

You discover everyone first. That is why you're such a handy friend.

um yes on the wallpaper. in MY house.

I splained to the inlaws how easy it would be to check in on the fam through the blog.

They just don't get it but complain about not knowing the happenings. I sedn them the link on the 5th of every month.
They haven't visited in over a year.

My kids read it and I write embarrassing things about them. They often ask, "are you going to blog this" Oh yeah, I am.
It's a fun little tool for moms.

Gerb said...

My husband & kids all read my blog. 3 of husband's 15 siblings read my blog. I have only told my younger brother about my blog, and he reads it because he's one of my best friends and aren't blogs an easy way to stay connected when we're all so busy?!

And that wallpaper would look awesome in my little kids' room. Then when they color on the walls, it will just blend right in. Wait...maybe they could CREATE that on their walls!

A blog is a terrible thing to waste!!! I'll have you know that I read your blog everyday and even sometimes read it to my hubby because it's JUST THAT GOOD! I'm so excited for ?The Chief to arrive but am also sad to think once he gets here your blogging days might drastically reduce.

WHAT WILL WE EVER DO?

A new house is so exciting. I love that wallpaper. I hope you show us lots if pictures of what you have done to make it all your own.

i seriously thought i was the only one whose family didn't care much about my blog. i'm SO glad to know i'm not alone! what is wrong with all of our families? we're just too cool for them. . .

Hubs checks in about twice a month to catch up on my blog. Or better yet, he'll occasionally ask, "so did you post anything today?" It's as easy as a click to see for yourself, my dear. My sisters are my most loyal readers. My in-laws never leave comments... but when I see them I'll start telling some story and they're like, "Oh yeah, I already read that on your blog." Is it so hard to leave a comment every now and then? I don't mind lurkers but come on, in-laws, step it up with the comments! Tell me I'm awesome every now and then.

Okay, a comment to the famous "C. Jane" is long since over due. I keep seeing your name. I visit Emily's blog (my cousin) and there you are, "C Jane." I head on over to Anne's blog (another cousin...yes, I have many many cousins) and there you are again. I swear I've seen you in multiple other blog sites...but I can't think of any others at the moment so just take my word for it.
So, Miss C. Jane...you get around. In a good way, of course. And I just decided to say hello.
"Hi, I'm Joan, C. Jane."
So I guess the question now is: what the heck does "C" stand for?

No. Yes. Yes. These are my answers and I'm sticking to 'em!

Welp, here's another random person commenting on your blog, but I'm sure you don't mind, right? I think your style rocks!, so yes, who could resist loving a room with wallpaper like that? My family reads my blog, but my husband doesn't...what the heck?! Yes, I've heard of Yael Naim, but only through the Mac Airbook (is that what it's called?) commercial. I love that song!

Sugar... said...

P.S. I know exactly what how you feel about the whole "my camera's batteries ran out" thing. Why don't my batteries ever work? A more relevant question; why don't I ever remember to bring my camera with me?

Tricia said...

I'm pretty sure that several family members read. They'll probably never say so, but they do.

I'm forever asking the non-readers, "Did you read my blog?", or saying, "You should read my blog!".

And Yael...who wha? I think you might not be the last one.

My husband pretends not to read my blog but my statcounter whispers in my ear when he checks it out at work on the sly. Makes me smile.

No in-laws (i'm actually glad), only one of my siblings (ironically Matt) and my parents read. SIgh. We'll never be a blogging dynasty.

do love Yael. Kind of felt sad when Apple used her (although I had only discovered her weeks before that, I still felt proprietary about her. funny how that is.)

Dad: couldn't care less

Extended family: 4 cousin-in-laws

After I made an announcement to my friends and families about my Family's Blog, I noticed that I usually get the comments from the families, who were brave to leave the comments.

Later, I learned that they told me that they love to read my blog. They also told me, "Im sorry I didn't leave any comment on your blog."

I also noticed women tend to leave comments more than men I know. (You know men usually like to think themselves! My husband is one of them. He would read it over and over when I mentioned his name on my blog.)

Oh well, I guess it is our therapy to express our update news on our blog.

I really like hearing about blog audiences I decided. These comments make me curious and laugh.

And hello to new commenters!

Joan, c stands for crazy cause I am crazy jane. You should try putting a c in front of your name, then we could be c jane and c joan. Think on that one.

That wallpaper is right up my alley. I recently took down all the wallpaper in the house and I miss it. I would buy that one in a second!

One daughter is definitely a regular reader. Dad checks in. Hubby not so regularly. One daughter never . . . I do it for myself now.

Congrats on the new house.

How long do we have to wait to see this baby?

chronicler said...

Oh yes the family reads. But comment? comment? what's a comment??!!

No you are not the last person to find Yael Naim. Neat! Thanks!

That wall paper, I love it. One wall somewhere.

My husband said to me, when we were in Chicago for 9 days, "I read the blog while you were napping today." He had a look in his eye like we were just reintroduced for the first time in a year because he's "too busy" to read it.

It would probably be cheaper to just get some graffiti artists to come to your house because I bet that wallpaper is PRICEY. Besides it would be "origina" artwork.

ps I live in a 50's house and I just took down the 60's wallpaper a couple of years ago and NOW that SAME wallpaper is oh so chic, but two years ago it wasn't. I am always a couple steps behind the program.

Hoss barely reads anything, let alone....
He travels all the time and could read my blog to catch up on his family....does he? No. He doesn't.

His sister and nieces read though, making it hard for me to write anything naggy about him on it. Then he would suddenly become interested!
