Right now there are six house guests here in Retro House. One of them is my sister by the law, Suzanne. You can also call her Susan, like my niece Claire does, or you can call her Suze like everyone else. She is that easy going. Suze and family are here for two weeks. Already I am hating the day they leave.
Suze is like a rocket. She's always moving, driving, doing laundry, going up the stairs and down. She gets Steve dinner, washes Alex and Jay's football camp clothes, texts Emily at her friends house and shuttles Muggles to her latest social engagements. But she does it unceasingly and totally non-grudgingly. Yesterday, she told Stephanie and me that she was going to take Jay to football camp and then "take five."
"You do that?" Steph asked astonished.
"Yes. And maybe I will even take fifteen." Suze answered, then added, "But no more than fifteen."
But she spoils me the most.
Last night I was nursing my infant and watching some tube with Alex.
"Alex" Says I, "I'd like some Cookies and Cream ice cream from the BYU creamery." (Could the BYU creamery make me a believer in the once-dreaded frozen concoction?)
"And I'd like some Strawberry." He replied.
Not ten minutes later Suze presented each of us our own cone (waffle) with dripping deliciousness. How did Suze hear us converse? She is always listening too.
But that is not all. When she heard about the Bath and Body Works sale going on right now she gifted me with a Island Cotton Breeze bottle of lotion. Later, she was showing me her BBW "Dream Mist" which I mentioned that I'd like to have for my sleepy nights. A few hours later my phone rang.
"Did you want the Dream Mist or the Dream Lotion?" Suze asked on the other line.
"Suze, you didn't . . ."
"I can do whatever I want. If I want to get the Dream Mist for you I will." Snapped Suze.
There is no bargaining with her, if she wants to give you the Taj Mahal you just learn to accept. Like the other night as we were partaking in Chup's Chicken Tacos she insisted that I eat while she bounced the fussy Chief. And p.s. No I don't eat chicken, I substitute with avocado. I knew you were going to ask.
She also emptied the nursery trash can. There was probably seventy-two mustered colored, yeasty-yummy smelling diapers in there. It was most likey really heavy and Suze only weighs like ninety-two pounds. Could've broken her spine. Risky.
As a matter of fact, even as I type this Suze is asking me if I'd like anything from The Pita Pit. You know, like a falafel or something. I am saying, "Not right now, but thanks." And she is saying, "Are you sure? Really?" And I am responding, "Seriously, but maybe I will take you up on your offer later." And she is saying, "I will keep tabs on you."
And I know she will.
Who are the Suze's in your life?

24 Pieces of Opinion:
Lucky me! I'm the first to post. Now you need to go to sleep.
My Bree is my Suze, but, alas, she always far away as her husband is a Navy nurse and she always lives by the seashore and I always live in the desert. Land locked.
Also, My Canadian Rose, is often Suze like. And so I stay with him. I need to be a Suze to him more often.
Going by name only, I guess I am. Except I don't put the 'e' on the end (Suz), which is wrong I know. But, that's just how I roll.
Going by their selfless service, there are too many Suzes in my life to name. I am one well-cared-for girl!
I live in a ward family that is full of Suzes - while getting ready for this wedding on Saturday these friends call and come over and take over chores, sew aprons for the serving girls, bake cakes for the different bridal cake table Hannah wants, babysit grandkids while we do a wedding party mani-pedi retreat, put up house guests for us, indulge the groom with his request for artichoke dip with pita chips, give showers for the brides in my family - they are wonderful - I can't ever move away from this ward - I don't think I could survive!
My mother in law.
She's awesome.
I have no Suze. i didn't even know there were such people. How can I find one?
jennie - I am also Suzeless... c jane - Can we borrow yours for a couple weeks?
My first thought was my SIL Melissa. Nobody gives better foot rubs or can put my babies to sleep faster. And to top it off, she is gorgeous. I find that the most selfless people are the most beautiful.
Um, I think I NEED a suze.. I'll take her.. Where did you find her?
I could use a Suze. Send her my way when she's done there.
My sis, Mim is my Suze. She is always there when I need her, as I am for her. I don't know what I would do with out her. Our kids are about the same ages and we go almost every where together! Sisters are the best!
My MIL, my Debbie, my Jenn--they all look out for me. My husband is the most thoughtful and attentive man I have ever met. But I don't know anybody like your SUZE. She should open a school for awesomeness.
for the last month my mom has been cleaning my house, weeding my yard, and bringing me grape-limeades from Sonic, so she's definitely my suze!
My friend Erika is my Suze.
She is always up for anything!
And the news we share most with each other is: have you tried that new restaurant/yogurt/gellato/shoppy place? Let's go!
This post also inspired me to be someone else's Suze.
We all need a Suze. Glad you have one!
Geez, I want a Suze. She sounds fabulous. I should probably be a better Suze.
My mom and I are reading this and she worked with the lovely Suze in the Emergency Room years ago. She concurs that Suze is terribly efficient AND can type 150 words per minute.
I think Chad is my Suze. He remembers to Tivo The Young and the Restless for me and fills the crock pot on Sunday mornings. Ahh, love.
I love to be the Suze. But I don't give my Suzeness to everyone... Some people have a hard time accepting Suze-like behavior, and then it no longer is fun.
I have two Sarahs in my life and they are my Suze's.
My mother came to stay with me about three months ago and did my dishes at least four times a day...
I was in shock.
I didn't know that the dishwasher could handle more than a load every other day.
(p.s.---I am a friend of your "bro's"---or rather, his favorite stalker---cool family)
I don't think I've commented since you gave birth so I have several things to say:
1. Congratulations on The Chief. He is perfect. And I love the way you are savoring the smell of his neck and important things like that.
2. Congratulations on the retro house (are you in the OH 7th ward, by chance? Part of my heart still beats in that ward :)
3. I'm so glad you have a Suze in your life. In your house! (for now.)
4. My mom is the Suze in mine. I wish she was in my house right now.
um, does she teach classes for wayward, curly headed LDS girls?
Hahha.
I want to be a Suze when I grow up.
Ahem! Check our e-mailler CJane. When is my date with the Chief (and you and Nie and her darlings)?
I'm with grannybabs- my ward/neighborhood family is filed with Suzes and AMAZING! I had dinners for almost 2 weeks after having Baby O. 4 nights people signed up for, the others just brought it over because they love me. I won't go into detail on all the other great things I've seen happen around here, but suffice it to say: I don't care if we grow out of this house, we will not move because I do not want to leave this awesome neighborhood.
I love Suze! She will forever and ever be my Fiesta Bowl Buddy.
c jane, I live in Virginia and as such am an East Coast Mormon. One of my Utah friends hooked me up with your blog and I just read some of the Jolly Porter's blog and what I think is that we need to move to Utah because you Utah Mormons are just way funny. Thanks for the laughs!
I don't have one, but I REALLY REALLY want one. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't have one because I am the Suze in my little bubble. But I would still like one.
I have three in my life. One is my sweet Grandmother who dedicates her life serving everybody else. Another Suze would be my mother in law. She's always there when I need her. And, I also have a wonderful neighbor across the street that is my little guardian angel. My husband travels quite a bit for work and she is always checking on me and having my children over to play and also having us over for dinner. She is awesome!
