you are amazing! I don't know you but I sure feel like I do. Thank you for sharing your life with us and bringing a smile to my face each time I read your blog. Nie will be so proud.
Happy Birthday Gigs. Pics look straight out of a NieNie post! You did good.
Just wanted to let you know that we are STILL praying. You know how in time everything goes back to normal for everyone else. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of either Christian and Stephanie and their recovery or your family's amazing love and sacrifice for their sweet children. This is what it is all about and you are doing a fine fine job! And, inspiring many while doing it!
I especially love that you have taken this opportunity to teach about the Church and our beliefs and I am sure you are touching many. Thank you.
The Perfect Day! I notice Spider man was driving the tractor, I've been noticing you are blogging at the same hour I do... funny how that happens when there are many children and the only extra time you have is after they are all tucked in. God Bless you.-n
Stephanie will love this. The cider, the pumpkins, the hayride, the post, everything. She'll love it. What a perfect way to celebrate an October birthday. You are all doing an awesome job. I know it can't be easy. Hugs, Heather
This post almost made me cry. I know how much Nie loves October, and it made me sad that she had to miss this perfect October day. October is my favorite month too. It looked like a typical birthday for sweet Gigs.
Awesome pictures - awesome party! What fun that must have been. I noticed Spiderman on the tractor - Go Spidey! My son wore his batman costume from one Halloween to the next - grocery store, everywhere. Best memories.
OK. WOW!! How truly Nie Nie ish are those pictures and that post. It sent chills sown my spine. How lucky is gigs to have you for an aunt. But as a mom, how sad that he didn't have his mom and dad with him on his birthday. I can't believe how awesome you are. Stepping in and raising your sisters kids. God is watching you! He is saying this is what families are for. You should be so proud! You did the perfect fall activity. What a special boy Gigs is. I love reading this post. I was wondering about something from the post the other day. What is the Retro House? Is that just a nickname you have given your home? Glad you enjoyed your weeekend with your family and your praying community. We continue our prayers for you and your family. Keep up the good work! Cherie in Michigan :-)
FYI balloon worriers...there are eco friendly balloons designed for the specific purpose of setting them off and they are available everywhere (every balloon store)- you just have to ask for them.
What a lovely birthday party! I think Mom and Dad would whole heartedly approve- it looks exactly like something they would plan, down to the post you made announcing it. You are all doing such a wonderful job. Even though this is hard on everyone, I think the kids will treasure this time they got to spend getting to know their extended family even better. Thanks for all of the updates and pictures- they are beautiful little glimpses into all of the pleasant memories you are making for your family.
y Oh precious Gigs. Please give that baby a big ol' hug from the Knox family in Georgia. Thanks for being such a loving sister to our Nie and posting about her loves, her kids.
ok guys! Those pictures were worth an admission price from us.....please click on that button to pay for the viewing...just a little helps you know! PLUS although most of us probably donated in August, we could do a little bit more today, don't you think? I hope you will join me this great day and do just that....c'mon, just a few pennies even! For a scone! ~Thanks :)
While perusing the pictures, I kept thinking that NieNie herself could have posted this. I think you did her great honor in celebrating Gig's birthday this way.
Love the Gig's haircut! Those kids are just beautiful!
Happy birthday to Gigs! I'm so touched that you all gave him such a special, memorable birthday. (though I'd expect nothing less), but it's absolutely heartwarming.
I thought of the new 2 year old this weekend. My kids are very near the same age as Stephanie's, so I've thought of each of them a lot. Anyway, looks like he had a good day. Happy birthday Gigs. I know you'll get your wish.
Happy Birthday, sweet Gigs! Your auntie and uncle sure do love you guys and did a WONDERFUL job at making sure there was a celebration full of fun, family and especially memories for your mommy and daddy to have later. Great job, Courtney! Nie and Christian will be so grateful--and proud of you, Chup, Lucy, Page, parents etc for all you are doing to give their babies stability, love, faith and fun during this stressful time. Love those photos too!
Your post, with pictures of family celebrating the month and enjoying nature and each other, is a lovely affirmation that in the midst of our trials - be they personal or of a more widespread nature - there is joy in unity. Knowing we are not alone, no matter what, is so strengthening, isn't it? Diane
All I can say, is that I stumbled onto your blog last week - and it's changed me. God Bless You for all that you are doing for your sister and her family! What an example you are to the MANY who currently follow this story- and the the many who WILL follow the story of your family! I am a Catholic from Minnesota with 2 young girls of my own. We are praying for you and S & C and both of your families........A big hug from me and many blessings to you! Pam
Hi, I know you don't know me, but with 83 comments I am sure I am not the only one. I am close friends with KERRIANNE BURCH. She has got her little crew so involved in your blog and Nie's we love the updates and send all our prayers.
Enough about that I had a thought... as a mother I could not bear the thought of being in an accident and have felt I missed so much over the past few months of my precious children's lives. (even in such wonderful care.) So my thought was I know you spoke of publishing Nie's blog(GREAT idea) I think you should get yours printed as a special gift just for her, so she may feel as if she were there the whole time!!
Just a happy idea. Hope Conference brought some much needed water for you and your precious family!! Our prayers are with Mr. Nielson and Nie and continously with your family also. Keep up the good work and a beautiful smile!! God Bless!
What a fun birthday. The pictures were adorable. So glad to hear the updates for Stephanie and Christian. Sending lots of prayers and happy thoughts from Oregon.
I LOVE that first picture of him! What a great party! Yes, it seems your sister would be pleased with the party, and how you documented it...she'll feel like she was there when she looks over these pictures...I know I did:)
What a great way to celebrate gigs birthday. You all amaze me every time a read your blog updates. I was so happy to hear that Christian got to talk with the kids. What a neat thing! I will continue to pray for your family.
Happy Birthday, Gigs! I'm thrilled to hear that Stephanie continues to progress and that Christian is doing so well. How thrilling for Gigs to get a phone call from Daddy on his birthday!
Happy Birthday Gigs! This post made me happy and sad because it reminded my of Nie's posts- I am sad for what they are missing. You and your family are amazing.
Your family continues to amaze me daily. It looks like a wonderful day for little Gigs!! I am glad for the positive update on Stephanie. She and her sweet Mr. Nielsen continue to be in our thoughts and prayers along with their children and all of you. Keep up the good work!
Sometimes my 7 year old asks to stay home from school. Last week I said o.k. (which I've done before), but this time, in honor of Stephanie, and because I don't want to be a basket-head mom, we played all day (made Halloween decorations, cuddled, practiced piano, played a computer game, and went to Baskin Robbins). It was a wonderful day. My laundry & messy home were so kind, they just waited for me take care of them the next day.
Also last week my best friend's husband was hit head-on by a drunk driver going the wrong direction on the freeway. He is miraculously alive but will have a long recovery. Long story short, I am getting a little taste of what you are going through, and am amazed at all the emotions: exhaustion, energy, peace, sadness, hope, and gratitude. It helps that I've been reading your words these last few weeks.
A perfect day spent in the Nie Nie way! Bravo to you for continuing the legacy. I've said it before and I'll say it again: you are so awesome!!! Your blog is the best!
You are truly amazing. What a wonderful sister and person. I wish I knew you, well I feel like I do since I read about you and your family everyday. Thanks for keeping us posted

Oh, you are a wonderful photographer. I'm not sure if that is what you do for a living...I'm new to reading this. You have captured those moments so beautifully. These hayride pics are just perfection - such beautiful family...I will pray for you and your sister tonight. deb from massachusetts
You should post this same post on Nienie's blog-so that her childrens history is also on her blog for her to look back on. I am so impressed by how much you are doing for you family. I would do the same thing for my sisters anyday! Thanks to your family for changing the hearts of mine. We have found a new love for life, family, and everything in between by reading about your blogs!

Nie was in every ounce of this post! I love the story telling through pictures. I love those cute kid faces! Happy Birthday Gigs! You know Nie wouldn't miss it...so glad Christian could talk to him. I would love to give my kids such an awesome Fall experience. Alas, we live in Southern California where the high today will be 92! I long for crisp Autumn days, a crackling fire, the anticipation of the Holidays. Year long Summers are the pits.
