There Are Four Things

There are four things that I really need to get off my chest.

Did I just choose to phrase my first sentence with "get off my chest"? Get off my chest? Really?

One, this book, written by blogging friends around the world for Nie's Recovery was awfully nice. Thank you for supporting our family in your funny way:

Two, my brother is an absolute genius. After I saw his play Nosferatu last October I sat in awe of his brilliance. This show is like nothing I have ever encountered in theater. Heavens, I don't even like theater. If you want to see this masterpiece it will be playing again for one day only. February 4th, one show at 7pm and one show at 9pm. Tickets are now on sale at UVU Campus Connection at 801-863-8797. Learn more about the show here and here.

I am so proud of you Topher! You really are a real Mormon Artist.

Three, Give Away Today is Giving Today a couple of my books. If you win I will sign it and address you by your full nomenclature. I will even forge my own signature. Go here to win yourself. ***To enter you must comment at Give Away Today. Comments on my blog don't (unfortunately) count. Though they do count in my heart.

Four, my bishop is the newest Provo councilperson. When we found out we toilet papered his house with biodegradable, fully-earth-replenishing, environmentally-sound rolls. He doesn't know it was us, though I am sure I will have to confess sometime. We were just so excited and what do you do with all that excitement? You toilet paper. You do.

See here for an article and a mug shot. Not a real mug shot, after all, he is my bishop.

we have already introduced our 11 year old to toilet papering!

I love what goes on in your mind and comes off your chest! not in the preverted way it sounded though....how you wrote it!!!

Brian and Tonya said...

Oooh, I hope I win, I hope I win. And really, you must invite me next time you go toilet papering.

karlene said...

your writing is delightful. I have followed it for some time now, but I never comment as there are always like 647 comments, but tonight just 6, must have finally had some good comments. I would imagine you might read 6 comments, but not 647. there, now I have used 647 words.

thank you for the laughs, keep them coming.

Aprilyn said...

I haven't been toiletpapering in so long. I need to teach my 10 yr old the art. You make me laugh. Thanks. I needed one tonight.

CMN said...

'snicker, snicker'... So I just have to say it: maybe the Bishop & family will figure out it was you after reading your blog...? Nah!

Emmie said...

Wait a minute. You don't like theatre?? Too bad you didn't see the high school production of Oklahoma that Azucar and I were both in. It would have BLOWN YOUR MIND.

emily said...

is the book for nie the "nie book" or will there be another nie book with all of nie's blogs? i love both, but was just wondering?

AzĂșcar said...

Or you would have blown your own mind out...there's a fine line.

Hmm, that Something Cleverish looks like an amazing book, I bet all kinds of funny people wrote essays for that one.

tharker said...

I think the last time I went toilet papering was in high school. I think I need to pick it up again! We were T.P'd a couple of years ago by the youth in our ward, and I took it as a sign of affection. Youth show their love through texting and toilet paper. Sounds all right to me.

Now THAT is a giveaway!

AzĂșcar said...

Something Cleverish is a collection of blog-like essays (some taken from blog posts, others original essays) that have been donated by the authors to benefit the Nie Recovery Fund.

ALL proceeds go directly to the Nie Recovery Fund.

We promise that you will laugh out loud at least once during the reading of Something Cleverish. I pinkie swear it.

You can read more (and find some of the authors) here.

nevadanista said...

My husband doesn't understand why I still think toilet papering is fun. You did the right thing :)

The Hills said...

yeah i really hope to win this giveaway for your book. if not i might just have to go and buy it :) p.s. i was wondering if you had any idea why the Run for Nie in AZ was cancelled this weekend. I have been recruiting lots of people and then I just found out it was cancelled. If it was lack of participation I would love to help so if you know any details at all to pass along that would be great, in all your spare time, ha ha- azhills@gmail.com....

The Foster Family said...

I can see why you had to get all that "off your chest".

Elizabeth said...

I wasn't sure whether to comment or not, but I couldn't on Nie's blog, but I thought you should know that when one clicks on the LABELS at the bottom of her post, one immediately gets the post she wrote years ago about her and Mr. Neilson not crashing. Anyway, that made me wonder whether she wanted that label on that particular post. And I apologize now if this is just weird commenting and sticking my nose where it doesn't belong -- does it make any sense?

David said...

One, This IS the bishop.
Two, My 14-year old will be crushed; he was convinced that some girl liked him.
Three, Thanks, we've been all out since yesterday and we needed some; and,
Four, Beware your next calling.

c jane said...

Oh crap.

Uh, nice mug shot?

Sammi said...

Oh those books both look very cool :)

Ah hahaha! I've just seen the bishop's comment :D

Cassandra said...

Toilet paper always equals good times:) Congrats to your brother for his recognition and I really wish I were out west to see Nosferatu! Keep rocking, C Jane!

Are you aware of the new act that goes into effect on Feb. 10, 2009? This will affect so many areas of our lives that I don't even know where to start. It is the CPSIA or Consumer Produce Safety Improvement Act. Check this out to see how it will affect handmade toys specifically. http://www.zrecommends.com/detail/five-steps-you-can-take-to-save-natural-and-handmade-companies
This will also affect thrift stores like Goodwill and many homeschooling resources.

I hope you are doing super well this week. Just wanted to stop by for my weekly love ya girl comment. My life has not been the same since I've prayed along with you all for your little Chief and your lovely sister and her family. You all amaze me - and you make me laugh. I've told you all this before, but it is a new week (in terms of commenting) so I must so it again!

I love C Jane Enjoy It!! I think one of my favorite posts was from December 3, the one titled "Do I have to write your cat back?". Courtney and I share similar humor....and I believe it's an acquired taste!!! Thanks for brightening my day, Courtney. I miss you when you don't blog!!

Pat Erekson. I love all your posts, but the one that touched my heart was the one entitled "The Ever Evolving"

One of my favorites..........who am I kidding, they are ALL my favorites, but one I remember that was posted recently was "Everything Nice". I loved how clever your writing was to let us know about the impending birth of a beautiful baby girl. I have to admit, I stole the idea to announce I am having a boy. I sent out messages with the line "snips and snails and puppy dog tails". You are a genius!!

I am SOOOOOOOO jealous! We haven't been able to toilet paper in Amherst (NY-suburb of Buffalo) since the late 70's when a few vandalism incidents occurred alongside. It used to be so much fun that when my daughter got to high school my MOTHER wanted to do a 3-generation TP party!

That clinches it -- non-Mormon or not, I'm moving to Utah.

Laura said...

I decided I was too old for toilet papering about 20 years ago. So, now I "flamingo" friends and neighbors. I have missionary flamingos, bride/groom, birthday ones, etc.

Cheryl said...

Wow it is hard to choose a favorite. I just found your blog a few months ago and have fallen in love with it. I was appauld when someone said you were conceded and selfish. You and the way you love your family has changed me, because of you I try to be more selfless and loving. Thank You.

My favorite cjane post:
"Unrequited"
http://blog.cjanerun.com/2008/09/unrequited.html

This was one of the first I ever read. I cried, and cried, and decided to be a better Mom so I could be my boys first love.

Cjane, you continue to rock! Please tell your precious sister we are praying for her today - and everyday. Give yourself a big squeeze too. You deserve it... as well as those other awesome sisters of yours.

May God continue to wrap you all in his loving arms.

Thanks for keeping a smile on my face!

Michelle ;)

What can I send Nie (and/or you and/or her children and/or Christian) to help show them (and you) how much you are all loved? I would love to mail something but want to know what would be best, most wanted/needed.....whatever! Feel free to email me at kljohnson7868@gmail.com or just write ideas in one of your blog posts. I really want to send them (and you!) something!!!

Butternut Sage Designs said...

Hi Courtney,
Sorry about that but the spelling was so bad in the previous post I didn't want to look uneducated! LOL! I am but, didn't want to look like it LOL! Anyway thanks for keeping us laughing, I am going to have to remember to make sure I have nothing in my mouth while reading your blog fpor fear I would be found late in the evening by my unsuspecting husband chked to death but smiling all the while! Please keep it up we need it. It is Nie's turn to make me cry NOW! She is so brave, please give her a gentle hug from me and then have her give you one too. I am still praying.....love and kisses (I know weird but I must) Donna

Kathi said...

Ok, my last comment sounded very....whiny. But really, I want to do something. Please let me. Ideas!!!!

Tricia said...

Please tell Nie that I printed a picture of her & Christian for myself & my 6 sisters to hang on our refrigerators, so we are reminded to pray for them every morning!!!
She is loved in Dallas Texas & we are lifting her up in our prayers. We won't stop!!!!!

Cjane, you are fabulous!!!!!
xo

Monica said...

Please tell Stephanie, since her comments are off, that she made me have an "Oh" moment.

I was really grouchy at my husband last night, and it carried over to this morning. We didn't get a chance to talk about it, so I sent him an email detailing my grievances. I'm pretty sure I told him that I didn't want to be a slave and I wished he'd help out.

And here comes Nie, in her gentle way, reminding me of the kind of wife I'm supposed to be. She longs to serve her husband again. Please thank her for once again showing me the right way.

NieNie is sooooooo brave. What a wonderful post she gave us today (1/21). I have just rediscovered crocheting after taking a break for a few years. Does she need more hats or is she inundated? I would love to be able to make something for her. Tell me what she needs.

That was a nice comment from your Bishop at least. It is a pain through when it rains ?snow. Sounds like fun was had by all.

Leslie said...

hehe. Get off your chest (a pun only milky moms would get right?)

Ok - so I will entitle this comment "If Nie allowed comments"

I want to smother her in love and prayers via blogger comments. I want to tell her she is BRAVE, AMAZING, INSPIRING and that she should be THANKED instead of THANKING people. I want to tell her SHE WILL be "that wife," she WILL get to a new place where she can find "normal."

I want to tell her, from a 3rd party, about YOU. She has to know, and I am sure she has a clue, that you are AMAZING, SELFLESS, DRIVEN and a natural nurturer.

I, selfishly derive so much strength from the two of you...I feel guilty doing it... but I can't help it.

That would be the gist of my comments "If Nie allowed comments"

I hope you wouldn't mind sharing.

Thank you
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4::6-7

I have to share not another poem but a quote by William Wordsworth. For you C-love, for you Stephanie:

My heart is at your festival.

C-love, you are a magnificent woman. I will never ever stop praising you.

Stephanie, you are simply sublime. Pure divinity.
I once needed to remember a surname that somehow escaped me. It was the name of a young boy who passed but somehow came to leave a big imprint in the world. I really couldn't believe I forgot his name one night for I have paid my respects to him in spirit. You came into my head and I remembered. Shepherd. I think the definition defines you. Bless you.
Bless C-love. Bless your sisters. Bless your family. Bless your children. Bless Mr. Nielson and his family.
Bless you all and those that are your friends.
I will always, always keep you in my prayers.

I am a nurse from Louisiana. I read your & Nie's blog. Love it! Just food for thought. Once Nie finishes her healing process, I wanted her to be aware of some possibilities of evening out some skin tones. The new spray on tans MIGHT be one option. I have a lot of friends that tatoo eyebrows, eyeliner, & lips. Especially, sisters that are older and all of that fades. We lose our eyebrow color, & lip color. A speed healing. I know she is help me heal from stuff! God Bless us eveyone!

Courtney, I have never posted before but I have been inspired by your story. I wake up every morning anxious to hear your words...and am grateful that even through trials...each of us can rise above them and become who God wants us to be. I never read the comments on your blog so am not sure if this has already been mentioned to you but thought I would share it with you in case. I live in Arizona and I remember the story of Officer Jason Schechterle who was burned in a horrific accident while in his patrol car. Upon hearing of Christian and Stephanie's accident, I immediately remembered his story. I have since found articles on his progress almost 8 years later. It is truly inspiring. A year ago while giving a speech he said, "I do not regret who I am today." I hope Stephanie (and I thought she looked beautiful yesterday on her blog!) will be able to find inspiration from others who have been through similar situations and know that there is hope! I have lived through my own trials and it was one word that God gave me that made me wake up each day--HOPE!

She has been (as well as you) an inspiration to so many and I hope you will let other's be an inspiration to you and your family!

We love you and pray for you daily.
