When I told Chup I wanted to sponsor the Rooftop Concert Series (aka put up some cash) he was really supportive, but we had no idea what that would entail. We love downtown Provo and want to cultivate a place of art and music, food and culture for us and the generations that will follow down the line. It's been a new venture for us and it's been thrilling, even the drama.
I did an interview for the Daily Universe yesterday and they asked me, "How are you able to offer the concert for free?" and I was able to respond like this, "When people believe in something like the Rooftop Concert series they are willing to donate whatever they have to make it happen. We've had donations of all varieties--talents, time, money--from artists, musicians, photographers, writers, chefs, landlords, concert promoters and forward thinking residents."
Isn't that cool? People who give are the best kind of people.
And the person who has given the most has been Sarah Wiley and I want to thank her publicly. She has the unbelievable talent of managing all the donated time, talents and money. Hats off to you Mrs. Wiley!
I know not everyone reading this right now will be able to attend our concert tomorrow night, but this adventure has been so centric in our lives right now that I can't ignore it here on my blog. But if you can come tomorrow night, I really hope you do. It's going to be unforgettable.
(Bring your chairs!)
And a little taste of that dreamy Benton Paul:
I am c jane and I wrote this post with The Chief on my lap. That is talent.

Mindy's great and all and you...well your voice... but that Benton Paul!!! Makes me want to fly out to Utah for a day.
That however is cost prohibitive. I'm off to iTunes to find him.
This is the second song I have downloaded from iTunes because of you. thankyouverymuch!
that's sounds like it's gonna be such an awesome time! i wish i could go, but provo is a little too far of a drive for me.
I want mindy's boots!!!!!
I'm sure it will be a big success!
I don't mean to hijack, but it's been bugging me and I don't know where to express it. Nie recently published a picture of her daughter hanging out of a moving car window. She noted something like, "yes, we had our seat belts on" but it is 100% clear that the child is not safely restrained.
I just don't understand it. I really don't. I lover her. I love you. But of all the people in the world to understand just how fast things can go wrong... I just don't understand what she's thinking.
It looks like so much fun -- and impressive! Have a wonderful time and I wish that I could be there --
Maybe Benton Paul was in my BYU Freshmen Ward. And maybe when he sang in Sacrament Meeting I thought we were pretty much meant to be together. And just maybe I made up a song about him that me and my roommates would sing.
And yet... I'm happily married for 7 years with two girlies and a boy on the way. Funny how things change... and I couldn't be happier for Benton and his success.
p.s. So glad you tried The Ramos House. Hope you thought it was as delicious as I do.
You know, if you wanted to...just a tiny bug in your ear...next time you're in St. Louis, you could bring the whole shebang with you. Mindy, "Dude," that cutie-pie Mr. Benton Paul...and the motorized sofa.
I'll look forward to the announcement that you're taking it on the road ;)
Hope it's easy to find. I'm thinking about bringing my mom. The poster says the concert will be on the corner of Center and University.
We are looking forward to it.

I bet that guy is good at a game of statues.
I love that name Benton Paul. and seeing as I'm about to give birth anyday now and have not made any decision about what the boy will be named. I will add it to my list. As I'm from a small town named Benton. Wouldn't that be perfect?
Have fun!!!
The concert sounds like loads of fun but being 8000 miles away im not sure i will get there by the weekend! Have fun :)
oh my goodness he is charming...and his voice is like caramel!!!!!! I am so sad I don't live near you guys! I would love to be there! Hugs~Donna from Massachusetts
Highlights for me were Mindy's boots, the backflip and your Travolta finger slide.
Have fun tomorrow!!!
I am not normally a concert going type of person. In fact I really really don't like concerts at all, lol! But despite that I really really want to come tomorrow!!! :D And yes, typing with a toddler on your lap, definitely talent ;D
i want to go.... dang stupid bunco.. maybe i will call in sick
Tell your "Dude" that that was the most awesome entrance ever! :)
I love it when you post videos, Courtney! You are even more endearing in real life! :)
Oh, how fun! I hope it all goes so well.
BTW, that picture of you and Chup at the beach.....Gorgeous!
Good for you for putting this on and helping your city out.

Yes, Jane was clearly unrestrained in that picture... and if you had read the caption, you would have seen that Nie CLEARLY stated the vehicle was stopped so they could look at the horses. Take a look at the scenery in the picture... it's not blurry is it would be had the picture been taken in a moving vehicle. The family stopped to check out the view, and the kiddos unbuckled to get a better look.
That horse people keep beating? It's long dead. Give it a rest.
C Jane, Sarah, Justin, Mindy, and all the community-minded rest, if I was wearing a hat it'd be off to you right now. Thanks for loving Provo with all your hearts, mights, minds, and resources. It's better and more fun because of you. I'm proud to know you, and (as always) to live here. xo
