Yesterday. I swear.
I swear it was yesterday I gave birth to Ever--a pink, wiggly thing who cuddled next to me in the guest bedroom on a night I couldn't sleep because I was so manic about having her in my life.
It was yesterday right?
Because today I fed her bananas sitting up straight in a high chair, after a morning of crawling like a pinball to toys scattered around the front room. Today she sat strapped in her stroller as we went for a walk--the car seat attachment just a memory in the short past. Today she kept her shoes on all day long.
I need to know, is this going fast for anyone else?
If I go to sleep tonight will I wake up to find her bags packed ready to move in a freshman dorm room? Out of my house into her own life?
TELL ME.
Because if it is true, I am going to get some masking tape tonight and tape my eyes wide open so sleep won't rob me of a decent passage of time.
(Is that it? Is that the point of getting no sleep when you are parents to babies and toddlers? Is it so you can be present for the part that flies by on the sinking and rising of the sun?)
My mind is on fire. Can't process.

p.s. MD and Kentuck, have you seen this baby recently? I had dinner with her last night and I almost didn't give her back. That is what you get for going to NYC without me.
And, I hope you don't mind, Ever passed down her sleepers. Hope Mia likes ruffles. On her bottom.

Two major announcements in one week, what am I CNN?
What's this cold, flaky white stuff?
I am Courtney Kendrick and that piggy hat is from Gap, just in case you needed one.

86 Pieces of Opinion:
oh my gosh, i want to eat her. (in a nice way).
My daughter is 8 and my son is 5 and I promise you that it was just yesterday that they were born and changed my life in all sorts of unexpected and glorious ways! I thought I had forever and now I can't figure out where those years went! Gulp.
I second noelle, I want to eat her too, in the nicest way.
My breasts have an uncontrollable urge to lactate...
You two make delicious babies.
Seriously, words can not even describe her cuteness (in case you weren't aware! :)
And yes, it goes WAY too fast! :(
oh. my. goodness. i'm pretty sure that is the cutest thing i have ever seen! i'm dying over here! the combination of that piggy hat and her little cheeks and bright eyes is too much! :) thanks for the smile!
@ Queen Scarlett
um.....that was weird.
and GROSS!
That picture is so precious and this post has me drowning in tears!!! I just put my 19 year old "baby" on a plane to your neck of the woods to serve the Lord for two years! It goes WAY to fast Cjane!! Soak up every ounce of laughter and joy and YES tape your eyes open so you don't miss a thing!!! And if you happen to pass by the MTC over the next few weeks, say a little prayer for my "baby" for me as you pass by:):):)
She is adorable, and yes it goes by way to quickly. My oldest is almost 8 and I swear it was just yesterday we were sitting in the hospital room nervous and wondering how do we do this. We have added a 5 year old and a 3 year old and I still don't know how they are getting so big so quick. But if you find a way to slow time down please share the secret!!
I am with you ... I swear you just had her yesterday too. WHAT? WHEN? HOW is she crawling to toys, sitting up and eating, and leaving her shoes on all day???? HOW is she old enough?????? (Could that little pink bundle be any cuter in her piglet hat?)
yes, it does go by that fast.
no, you can't stop it.
my twins are 18, and I have no idea how that happened, but I remember a lot of it, and I wouldn't change it if I could. yet. except to maybe hurry them out into the world now, while I still like them, before they start to get on my nerves.
can I borrow Ever? Just to remind me why babies are a good thing?
knew you'd understand...
yesterday, my 11 year old son was born and it was just him and I (oh, and my husband).... it seriously flies by.... the days are long the years fly by:(
I feel the same way about my eight month old daughter. Where has this year gone?
Ever is so cute. She makes the best pictures. Never fails to bring a smile out of me.
are you KIDDING me with those cheeks?! so terribly cute.
She is so precious, and yes it really does go by in the blink of an eye.
YES!! It DOES happen that quickly!! In August I dropped my beloved daughter off at school about a MILE from your house. She is now about THREE THOUSAND miles from MY HOUSE! (Washington D.C. -- however far away that is) Don't close your eyes b/c I SWEAR that yesterday my husband told me that if we were having a boy his name would be Keanu. Thank goodness she was a girl. (and by the time our boys came along that phase was over.) The pictures of Ever are sooo cute! They totally made me miss my girl. Who romped in the snow last night as it was coming down fast and furious. We are on the other hand are having 72 degree weather! I will keep mine. You can have your snow! :)
my baby just turned one and i feel like i had him just yesterday. i swear every child grows up faster then the one before. HOW CAN WE MAKE IT STOP!? I don't like it one bit! oh that hat is darling on little miss Ever!
It goes SOOOOO darn fast. Too fast. Enjoy every single second. My youngest is 14 now and I am mourning the loss of the youngsters in the house. *sigh* Big time.
Oh! She is just delicious!
I lover her in that hat!
It goes too fast. I love to talk to my toddler and have a real conversation... but I miss "Baby Weston" every single day. Especially at bed time.
Adorable hat... but where did you get the cute coat?
sooo cute...she really is growing so fast. love her smile!
OH.MY.GOSH. Most darling thing EVER! I LOVE THESE PHOTOS!
And yes, time flies once you have kids. My girls are 4 and almost 3 and it breaks my heart everyday...where did my babies go? Babyhood doesn't last long enough :( Guess that's why people keep having more!
LOVE the idea that this whole "no sleep" thing is for good reason...so we don't miss a thing. Makes my middle of the night visits with my 8-week-old much more delightful :)
I know you must hear this daily, but I've gotta tell ya...you are magnificent. I'm a long-time reader, but first-time commenter...just thought it was time you knew the truth: Magnificent. You.
I want one of those hats right.now.
I want an Ever too!!!
You know you could win contests with the photos of her!
Thanks for the postscript at the end, I definitely do need a hat like Ever's for my Anna. See Ever Jane is a trend setter already!!!
cutest.baby.in.the.world.
Don't do the tape. You'll never close your eyes again! It ALL goes fast. I swear my sophomore in college was just a chubby little bubby on my lap! :(
Ohmysweetgoodness! Those pictures with the piggy hat are too cute for words. She's beautiful!
-FringeGirl
That hat and your Ever are ridicoulsly, painfully cute. it seriously hurts me!seriously!
I'm a mom of 5. My oldest is a mama herself and my youngest just turned 5. It goes sooo fast. Drink it all in, enjoy every moment and don't listen to country music when you drop your kids off at the dorm. ;)
I think Ever looks just like your mom!
i hope my future kids are as cute as yours!
and i hope that i dress them in fabulous attire like you do.
we are on the same brain train, bloggically speaking ;)
http://justinandashleyreeves.blogspot.com/2010/10/never-grow-up.html
I NEED a piggy hat! Oh yeah, and a baby to go with it. I'll start with the hat though:)
My MIL just called me to say, "Did you see the picture of Ever on CJane's blog?" We both just laughed and awed and goo-goo'd over it.
You're post reminds me of a video. I don't remember where I first saw this video but watch it, you'll love it!!! (It may make you cry)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olSyCLJU3O0
Love this post. The cheeks, the eyes, the tongue, the way that you wax poetic. Beautiful.
This post should have a serious baby cuteness alert! Ever's photos shout "EAT ME UP!" Keep making those babies!!!!!
BTW... my oldest is 16 and I still haven't slept through the night (but in a good way) - I think it is a maternal thing, not wanting to miss a single second before they are out the door and off to college!
I think Ever is the definition of "omgoshsocutesosocutecutecute"
And she looks to be of a spunky personality already. Get ready!
Seeing her picture immediately makes me break into a smile. What a little 'ham'. hee hee hee
every day I tell my two year old to stop growing up! It really does go to fast. But just when I think I can't take it if he grows up even a teeny bit more he learns something super heart melting, (like how to say "Mama I wanna hug your face!") and I decide this age is even better than 3 weeks ago. If you do figure out how to slow down time please let us all know, becuase I really don't want to miss a thing!
she is so dang CUTE!!! You're so blessed ~ And yes I think its going fast [from a blogger perspective] You should absolutely get the tape, maybe glue, maybe just have the lids removed...ewww grossed myself out.
My daughter was born in August and my mind is already racing thinking about how quickly time is going by. She is my 5th and I long for her to stay little forever. I watch my 7 year old and sometimes want to cry when I think about how fast he is growing up. But at the same time, I have an 18 year old step daughter (I became her stepmother when she was 3) and I am so proud of who she is and so excited for the life ahead of her. Seeing her enter a new stage of life has been as thrilling as holding a newborn baby!!!
Ok, so I totally get it that she's the cutest thing on earth. I'll even grant that she's as cute as my own children.
But how how HOW do you get her to make those faces for the camera? It's genius.
I always tease my husband that he treats our daughters as if he expects them to pack up and move to college the next day. He likes it when they seem to be growing up fast, I guess because he can do more with them. And while that part is nice, I feel exactly the same way about the masking tape eye peeling idea of yours.
Seriously...she could be the cutest thing I've ever seen and I have 2 girls of my own...I know!
Krista
I don't just throw around compliments about other people's babies like this, I swear. You see, I have the cutest babies on the planet. But your Ever is so deliciously darling. I am thinking of submitting my Joe's (9 months) resume, photo and application to be considered for Ever's list of potential suitors. Does she like the Northwest? I do hope so.
oh my gosh. so cute. so darn cute.
Yep, the more kids you have, the quicker their babyhoods go. You can't sit and stare at them all day like you could with the first, and when you look away, they grow. :)
Oh, C jane!! Ever is so cute! I just want to kiss her cheeks forever!
We have 3 kids, ages 13, 10, and 7. We are in the process of moving from one stage of life to another and, as much as I adore babies and would love to have another one, we are trying to find joy in every stage that our kids are in. It's weird moving from the stage where you are taking care of them physically to a stage where you are essentially helping them become people. I am enjoying them as much as I did when they were babies, just in a different way.
That photo has rendered me speechless, a rare thing.
OH my gosh, those pics of Ever are ADORABLE. You always make me think and caused me to think again. When I had my daughter I was frequently annoyed when I didn't get my full, uninterrrupted 8 hours in. I have practically wished my daughter's life away by hoping she'd grow up faster, i.e. sleep longer, sit-up, walk. You made me realize I need to be more grateful for the hard times because I will remember them as the good times.
I had a baby same time as you, she has the same cheeks, but my babies eyes are blue. You can put words to how I feel, and I love reading what my heart is feeling. I bought a print from Sarah Jane Studios that says just stay little. I cried when I saw it because she drew what my heart felt. I need to find a way to express my heart!
I'm with you, Courtney, how the heck did that wee one grow so quickly?! Those cheeks of hers just do me in!! Thanks for sharing, Lori
Oh my goodness...she is the cutest baby girl!! I feel ya on the growing pains...our little ones grow up way too fast! Sniff...sniff... :-)
My daughter...is about to turn 14 months old. 14 MONTHS. I often ask myself...how is that possible?!? doesnt that mean that a whole year plus some has passed us by? But how...when...? I does go to fast. TOO TOO FAST!
Um...that little face...what are you doing to me? She is so dang cute! And that sweet piglet hat...you're killing me!
Yes, it goes entirely too fast! My oldest is turning 11. ELEVEN! She's going to middle school next year. I'm not old enough for this. She's not old enough for this. As you can see, I'm in complete denial.
And to make it all worse, my baby that I JUST gave birth to...yeah, she is going to be ONE in just short matter of 4 weeks. I think I want to cry.
my baby just turned 1! I seriously can't believe it's been a year. How does the time go by so fast??

Oh my, what a little sweetheart in her piggie hat!
Yes, sorry. Yesterday my son was a super cute 4 year old. Now he is 17, sigh..
You children are DELICIOUS.
Seriously, I think they are so cute! What a lucky Mommy you are!
She is just ridiculously cute.
Where can I get one of those baby people?
Some days fly by, others feel like a decade.
My daughter Zaya was born on March 14th and I am feeling the same way, it is flying by. (She is my second child as well.) She has an owl hat and these pictures of Ever have inspired me to have an owl hat photo shoot.
Ever is so adorable!!! How do you ever get anything done around the house when she is there to cuddle and kiss with.
My oldest son, Dylan, is 30 and I swear it was just yesterday I birthed him. I still remember the day as as if it were yesterday. I remember when he graduated from HS and then the university, then taking off for grad school at NYU, and now a movie editor in NYC. So much, so fast. I am so blessed to call him my son.
--Mari
P.S. He travels the world all the time, and he always calls me when he's at JFK to leave and from JFK when he arrives back home. I love these calls!
LOVE THESE PICTURES! I'm sitting here giggling just looking at them again. She is just so PRECIOUS! :) Yes, it goes fast...my "baby" (first of 4) is 13 and wearing makeup and wanting to drive. WHAT!? How it happens so quick is a mystery indeed.
I just have to say that those pictures are absolutely priceless. What a beautiful baby girl! I can't get over it. (I'm so baby hungry it's almost pathetic.)
It's going crazy/scary fast for me as well. Sometimes get choked up at the thought of my baby getting bigger.
oh geez, she is too freaking cute!
love the hat- definitely need to snag me one of those for baby girl.
ps. does it go by faster with the second? it went by so fast with my first and i'm worried it will be even faster with our next baby.
Yes, time goes by waayyyyy too fast, and babies grow waayyyyy too fast!
Ever is yummy, and I like her piggy hat :)
Ahhhhhhhh cuuuuute!
Ever, honey, go easy on her! This is Earth remember?! Baby steps, girl! You'll freak us out!
oh my goodness! Those cheeks!
SHE IS ADORABLE! Those are the cutest pictures ever! Totally made my day!
"(Is that it? Is that the point of getting no sleep when you are parents to babies and toddlers? Is it so you can be present for the part that flies by on the rising and sinking of the sun?)"
now ^ that's profound. and, i am pretty sure it's a fact too!
IT's so strange how time changes everything. It seems like hardly anything happens in one day but I can't believe how far away from that ugly Christmastime that seems like just yesterday in my mind.
Yes, it's exactly like that.
My eligible bachelor Maxwell (7.5 months) is growing at the same speed of light. Seriously it was yesterday, March 13th, that I had him.
He has been bursting forth with a soul restlessness ready for his mortal mission since before he was born. Why should now be any different? (But could we get past the paper addiction?) I'm sure Ever is the same way. I am a mother because the glory of God is an infant:) I'll try to catch it too.
WAY to stinking adorable!
Melt my heart with that first picture why don't you!
It just goes way too fast.
OH my gosh. I've had a rough day...week...semester. I'm in grad school and pulling my hair out. And rambling. BUT I just checked this lovely blog, catching up on several days worth of posts. AND. and. These pictures made my day. Absolutely. Thanks, Ever! Thanks, Courtney!
OMGoodness Ever is adorable! Those eyes....those cheeks....
OH MY do they grow fast...enjoy your darlin kiddos!
I just want to use this photo as a screen saver, even though I have adorable kids of my own.
Ever is such a cutie!! I just want to eat those cheeks. And yes, they grow up way too fast. Dang it!
Wow, I'm right there. My daughter was born within weeks (days?) of Ever and I am having the same thoughts constantly. When did she outgrow this onesie??? Is she really holding that cup on her own? Look at that reach! I'm buying baby food already? (That's right, buying, not making.) I do not have the energy to process because it would take every ounce I've ever had.
PS - when did you change to Courtney Kendrick? On the blog, I mean.
You made me cry with this phrase: Is it so you can be present for the part that flies by on the sinking and rising of the sun?
My oldest will head to college next fall. But the baby is still keeping me up! :)
Those are the cutest expressions ever. Ever so sweet! Thanks for sharing.
She is sooooo cute :-)
