Sunny St. George of the Spotless Mind

You shouldn't feel sorry for me, just because I worked from the day after Christmas on past New Years Day--no breaks. I had to stay home while the other half of my family (the boys) went to in-law-dwelling Idaho to eat Cheetos and play with remote-controlled gadgets and Rockband Whatever until the mysterious morning hours.

Nope. I was working on meeting deadlines and crunching numbers. Just kidding I didn't crunch any numbers, furthermore I am horrid at math. I still wake up with night sweats having had a nightmare about being in Pre-Algebra class. Something tells me I am not alone in this.

So back to feeling sorry for me. You shouldn't. You shouldn't because we are going to sunny St. George, Utah in two weeks to sit and do nothing. Well, besides hike around Zion, swim with our cousins, eat TwentyFive Main cupcakes (world's best!) and well, hopefully meet some of you.

That's right. We're going to have us a Reading in St. George. You come to our Reading, you bring something you've written, and share it. Or, you come, bring your friends and listen.Or you come and eat TwentyFive Main cupcakes. Am I making myself clear? If you live anywhere close, you come.

(I am particularly reminded of my new found friends in India and Norway who have been emailing me all day saying "we're here!" I wish St. George, Utah was close to India or Norway, but at this point in the geography of the earth's platelets it is not. But Vegas is. You live in Vegas? You come.)

Here are the details about the Reading you are coming to:
January 20th
Washington City Community Center.
7:00pm.
We will read some, eat some, discuss some.
The original Mother/Photographer/Business Owner Haley Warner from Haley Ann Warner Photography will be there to answer some questions about using images with your blogging (have you met her? You will fall in love, as I did twenty years ago). And the very introspective and amusing Suzanne from the blog Life's Negotiations who also happens to be married to my eldest brother Steve is going to read some of her salty posts.
If there is time and we're not boring you, you can ask me any questions you might have about writing, blogging or what is it like to be Nie's sister? (Someone once asked me if they could shake my hand because it would be almost like shaking Nie's hand. I guess that's what it's like to be Nie's sister. So that question is already answered. Cross off.)
More details will surely follow. In the meantime, we're open to suggestions. Start telling us where we must go and what we must eat, see and feel while we are in the southern part of our lovely Deseret (Deseret is another name for Utah, India people and Norwegians who might not know) (Is there anyone from India or Norway still reading this?) I mean, I've been there a lot, but surely even I am missing something. See below my picture for our contact information. Or you can always leave a comment on this post by clicking on Pieces of Opinion (or POO for short--acronym unintended) below.
Consider yourself invited!

Oh golly I am long-winded tonight. Which means, I should probably put my mouth/typing fingers to bed.

Good night globe!

Dear C. Jane:
Chup's first regular post. It takes him all day to write these. It better be good.

C.Jane's Guide to Provo:
USA Today picks up on Provo's music scene. Hate to say we told you so. And have you seen Neon Tree's new video?

I am C. Jane Kendrick and seriously now, stop feeling sorry for me. Ok, maybe a little. You can contact me personally at cjanemail @ gmail.com or leave comments on my facebook page and if you are on twitter you can find my tweets here. But no pressure.

You've got to stop in Cedar City! Sure it's 45 minutes away from St. George, but some of us SUU students read your blog and do not have cars... Talk to Braun Books or The Grind- they're good for hosting a reading if you're interested. If not, then just go to these shops because they're what make our Main Street special. See you soon.

You have German readers too, you know? ;)
Just get over here, and once you're here: Norway isn't thaaat far away, so we all win. Except the Indian people perhaps?

Greenwoods said...

Hey, I'm in Japan... You could stop here on your way to India! See - everyone wins! (as long as you can handle the jet lag) :)

By the way - LOVE the new pic!

I am from India and I have been reading your blog posts for a long while now. To say I love your blog, would be stating it mildly. I wish you were coming to India (well, mostly cos I can't wait to see Ever and The Chief in person - what precious babies).

Oh hey...I just moved to St. G. a few months ago. I am loving it. I think I'll come and shake the hand of the famous C. Jane.
And, I've sort of dubbed myself the local historian around here. I like posting things about life in Dixie.

I had no idea that Deseret was another name for Utah and I'm not from India or Norway... just Jersey!

Oh Courtney "singing here....pleeeeze come to Boston in the spring time......" Carly and Yoshi would love it!

You're going to St George? NOW, you're going to St George?! I USED to live in St George, but we moved 2 months ago. To Michigan, the vast snowy wasteland. Dang it. If I still lived there, I'd so come. I'll just have to pass it on to my friends. Sigh.

Tana said...

Yeah POO!!!! I'm DYING to be there. Darn platelets!!

I am moving TO SG at the end of the month, so I'll just miss you. But the Thai place there rocks. They have two locations. (Of course Twentyfive Main does too). And you have to go to Snow Canyon. I love it there.

I can't tell you where to go when you're in St. George because I've never been. My expertise in that area are pretty much on par with my expertise in math. (you're so not alone!)

Have a great time though!

tharker said...

As is apparently my expertise in the English language.

I meant to say my expertise IS on par...

Carry on, carry on. Nothing to see here...

Bear Paw Cafe. Main street across from the pizza factory. Best home fries everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Makes going without carbs for weeks worth the wait to have them. Apparently the waffles are food too, but I'm a potatoe girl.

I'm SOOOO jealous! Zion is our family's most treasured place. It's where we can turn off everything that connects us to the world and just be with each other with NO distractions. We have no schedules, we just act like kids on an adventure searching for something cool. I hope you have a great time, man am I jealous!!

april said...

Well Courtney-

Alas I am in Carlsbad. It is a wee bit far to drive just for a cupcake. Although if there ever was such a cupcake worth driving seven hours with two screaming babies, it would be the coconut cupcake from 25th and Main.

So don't wait up for me. Anywho, I wanted to tell you that if you go to St. George and you don't visit a little shop called Urban Renewal you will be missing out in a monumental way.

Just go. Thank me later.

Wile I live in Monrovia...I work in Pasadena, and the Little Flower Candy Company is off the charts delish!!! You should come and see. Great Harvest Bread Co. on Boulevard and 400 W. has the BEST cupcakes, ever. The owner makes them and they kick 25 Mains cupcake bums. :) Hopefully St. George will warm up by the time you get here. Zion will be delightful though. See you soon!

Seattle. Sometime in the summer (unless you love rain). I'd love the chance to read AND listen.

I can hardly contain my excitment!! I live less than 2 miles from Washington Rec Center.. and Twenty Five Main is (almost) my favorite! Im a "fairy" kinda cupcake girl :) Its like a celebrity coming to my town!!! WAHOO!!!

Sydney said...

CJane! Remember me? I was the girl on twitter that said you should come to Cedar. You weren't kidding when you said you were already planning on it.

Well you have to stop at the pizza cart while you are here. They are open Mon, Fri, and Sat from noon to 8. Its delish. I wrote a post about them here http://itsallaboutalifestyle.blogspot.com/2010/11/pizza-cart.html

I consider them to be one of the few food gems of Cedar City. And we can do lunch or double date? Nevermind that I'm only 20, I'm mature for my age.

Pretty please? ;)

I love your blog! It is a daily ritual.

Oh Courtney, the weather is beautiful down here today! It's t-shirt weather! Hopefully when you come, it'll be the same. While you're here, you should head up to the Dixie hill and take The Chief through the crack. My kids love it and I'm sure he would too! Hope you have a great time!

St. George? When is Seattle on the travel plan? LOL

I would attend a reading, in a heartbeat. I am taking a screenwriting class at UW, which is something I've wanted to do forever -- I'm checking this off the bucket list.

I'm from Norway, but I live in Spanish Fork, so I probably don't count. However, should you ever decide to go to Norway to do a reading, I hereby volunteer to go as your native bearer.

Also, if you haven't gone yet, you should check out Benja Thai in St. George. I don't often say things like "you will not be sorry", but you will not be sorry!

Lyndsi said...

That's my birthday and I live in St. George! Maybe that will be a good present to myself. Especially if there are 25 Main cupcakes. And one with a candle in it for me. Just a thought. :)

You should check out Violets and Lilies while in St.George, too cute for words and it seems like a place you would love. It is actually in the original relief society building. Have fun!!!!

Ya know what might help get even more people to come is some sort of give-a-way while you're here. You've been known to hook a person up here or there. Maybe some cakebites perhaps?
I'm just saying that so that I wont have to stop at The Sweet tooth fairy on my way.
Can't wait to have you and please don't be sad if it's not sunny...occassionally that happens, but not very often.

Megan said...

You MUST go to The Prancing Pony for dinner. Although I wouldn't take the kiddies along. Maybe you and Chup can get away for a nice romantic dinner? Have fun!

Christina said...

Can you add Whidbey Island to your list of places to go this year? You guys would love it here!

I used to be from the St. George area, but now call Sacramento home. Anyway, I second, or thirds, or fourth the Benja Thai restaurant - try their sweet mango rice desert. So GOOD!

julie said...

Oh sure, I move to northern Utah and you go to St. George! Interesting. It would have been so cool to go to your reading in St. George. Sigh. Well, hopefully, you'll have other events that I'll be able to attend. Have fun in the sunshine.

Cardalls said...

OH man...I am a Vegas reader, but can't make it!

Gotta pick up on something you said about being Nies sister. Whislt i have every admiration for Stephanie and the way she handled the accident i think you and Chup are the real heros of the piece. The two of you made a CHOICE to integrate the children into your lives when you could were under no obligation, please never under estimate the magnitude of that decision and know how much you are admired. I, for one, would love to shake Stephanies hand just to be closer to CJane (in a non creepy way). Congrats you two and lovin the blog!

My family loves going to Pioneer Park on Red Hills Parkway. Kids can just kind of run free over all the red rock, and it is an amazing place to take photos (especially at the right time of day). We actually live in Washington and absolutely love it here, so I'm happy to see that you are taking a trip to the community center. Wahoo for me!

I will be there on Thursday anyway helping teach a dance class at 5:30then taking a polynesian dance class at 6:30, followed by Zumba at 8. Look for the chic in the lava lava frantically running to each thing and stopping to jump up and down to sneak a peak between classes...that'll be me.
