I was sure it wasn't possible for me to produce a healthy, functioning child without actually doing anything to make it happen. I mean I know I was sick and tired and fat, but I didn't sit down with a pad of graph paper and figure out all the little details like fingernails, the curls of skin inside their ears, that kind of stuff. How was all that to happen without my attention? And, also the thought of a living creature in side my abdomen reminded me of when the alien bursts out of Sigourney Weavers stomach.
