Ugh. Why even mention this? I don't see an ethnic rainbow, I see a beautiful baby. Ga, I wish people would stop being so ignorant. You know you thought about that statement before you posted it.... but you did it anyway.

Jude is beautiful. I prefer the ethnical rainbow though. Cuter I guess.

As someone that is "ethnically rainbowed" I think the comment wasn’t CJane at her best.
I don’t assume CJane is racist or chronically insensitive. It clearly wasn’t stated with any ill intent. But I also don’t think as someone sarcastically stated "You can only mention race if you are non-Caucasian." But since so many of the readers of this blog are Mormon, you may wish to think about how people talk about you as LDS people, when they themselves are not LDS. Sometimes the terms people use to describe LDS people are kind, sometimes they are unkind. Some of the stereotypes are positive, some negative, but a stereotype is still a stereotype. And while some people mean nothing derogatory when they speak about LDS people, LDS people are sensitive to the ways in which they are referred to by people not of their faith.
With that said, not everyone is so sensitive. But let’s face it, issues involving race and religion are nuanced and hard to communicate through written words. That’ probably why CJane takes great care to explain her thoughts on her belief system. She didn’t take the same level of care to set the context for why she would bother to point out her observation that baby Jude was “ethnically rainbowed”.
CJane probably brought up race because it is what she thinks makes baby Jude different from her baby Ever. It’s what so many people do when talking about people that are different from them. They refer to their friends with adjectives like “my black friend” or “my gay friend” or “my Jewish friend”. Sometimes people just want to be your friend, not the person you would refer to by race, religion or sexual orientation. If it’s relevant to the story, it makes sense to bring it up. But in this case, “ethnically rainbowed” had nothing to do with anything. But it might, CJane just didn’t tell that story.

You broke the rules. You can only mention race if you are non-Caucasian. And then you don't have to use creative, beautiful terms of endearment. And no one would criticize you.

Just think of the beautiful ethnically rainbowed grandchildren you'd have with these two! Sigh. I could eat them both up!

Should I say "ummm no sir I am not blonde, I just have "sun loved" hair"....what is wrong with you people? Take what she writes and move on....good lord! CJane I don't know you but I love that you are able to put yourself out there!!! Coming from the first "anonymous" poster here: isn't "ethnically rainbowed" a different way of saying mulatto?

CJane is clearly a gifted writer, of that there is no question.

But seriously, putting a baby out there in a cutesy way of saying oooh, look, he's multi-racial? Ignorant! And far below our beloved Cjane!!

A Cjane fan here, for years. And I don't think it's wrong to point out that using the term "ethnically rainbowed" implies something not...quite...right.

Cjane seems to appreciate feedback and challenges to think outside her "box" or bubble if you will. I hope she appreciates our honest feedback!

No one said anything mean or abusive. Many of us love reading this blog and do so on a daily basis. It doesn't mean we have to be gushing glorias about every post. CJane has said herself that she takes comments on board. So if it means I can highlight when I think she is being disrespectful, I will, just like I will comment on something I like that she has written.

The fact that all the 'grumpy' ones have been constructive completely undermines your attitude. Not everyone has to be an ass-kissing cheerleader - there are enough of you here doing just that.
And if reading a blog rocks your world, perhaps you should put on your shoes and step away from the computer for a while.
