Your post really resonated with me. I became an aunt at 11 and I couldn't love Erik more. He thing he said and did was magical to me.

Erik is 33 now and a college professor. His beautiful mother is dying from cancer and I can't protect him from that immeasurable pain. It breaks my heart.

Did you notice the difference in the books here? That he is reading some sort of tome and you are reading a children's book with ABC on the cover? I just think it's apropos to the story and really pretty funny.

My oldest nephew is off for his mission in Denmark next month. It goes so fast...and it's so much fun. That's the sad part. It's so much fun but it passes through your hands so fast that you never can hold on to it.

I live in Northern Virgina and just arrived in Utah to drop my oldest son off at BYU for his freshman year. What mixed emotions I have to be leaving my child so far from home. I hope your sister is doing ok dropping off her oldest.

Virginia is awesome!! We live in Northern Virginia near the Dulles airport. I am guessing that he might be going to SVU. That is in one of the prettiest parts of the state, but be warned there is NOTHING there. It is very remote, but beautiful all the same. If his Aunt gets to visit him will she let all of her groupies know so that we can follow you around like the paparazzi??

SVU is the place to be! Graduated from there, worked for the admissions office and my husband was the baseball coach for a few years- if that is where he's going, he will be in Excellent hands :) The education is top of the line. My brother is the asst. Baseball coach now, if he needs anything! :) He will grow there in a way that only that special place can offer. It is so unique and after many moves to and from there in the past 12 years, nothing compares. It is such a special place and it sounds like for an equally special nephew of yours :)

Ugh, I remember being completely overwhelmed by how heartsick I was when I left for college across the country, leaving my 1 year old nephew behind. I was so incredibly in love with him, and missed him enormously...I ached, it was awful. I cast off my high school boyfriend with much more ease than my family had expected; frankly, if I missed my Nephew Boyfriend SO much more than this silly high school boy, it couldn't possibly be love!! My nephew taught me what love actually was, and I'm so grateful for that.

But oh, hearing my family tell me that he would wail up to my bedroom from the bottom of the stairs, thinking in his little baby heart that his Aunt was up there, right up there, and why wouldn't she wake up and come down to play? Because he can't climb the stairs alone, and she ALWAYS came when he called...Lord above, that thought still rocks me. I'll never leave town again, I promise!!! :)

My son burned his hands on his grandma's stove. It was awful. He had purple bandages over his huge blisters, and they were just like mittens. He was just one year old. I feel your pain!
