Those were my favorites also. I've been wishing I could write like you, even though I know it is wrong to covet. This morning I have been thinking that maybe it's okay for me to be an appreciator instead of a writer. I always get you. And so I think my part is something also. A small part, but still something. Saw Chup and The Chief at Ikea yesterday. They were eating Swedish meatballs with toothpicks. As I walked by I said, “Hi, Chief”, but it was actually Chup I was looking at. He said, “I’m Chup”. I laughed and said, “Ooops, I should’ve known that”. Then The Chief giggled and pointed out the window at a blue mini-van. I asked Chup where you were? He said, “Luminaries”.

I need to stop eating pistachios while blog surfing just before bed.

Compression, Expansion, Illumination. I read it again just now and it still overwhelms me. And not for the reasons I thought it would. Your family's ordeal is and was unimaginable. I thought I would find myself with a sigh in my coffee again thinking, "how can they bear it?" "What can I do?" you know??? The mere thought of it is something that paralyzes. But in this essay... you were like the kid who walks again beyond all odds, the guy who beats brain cancer and goes on to win the Tour de France 7 times in a row.

I read blogs like my parents read the paper... and if I had a choice I would nominate that essay as the number one essay of 2009. This essay was the impetus for me to begin reading your blog not only because I read your sisters.

I am gushing I know but I can't help it... that essay... TRANSFORMED my spiritual understanding of trial, strife, fear, sadness, blessing, joy & peace. I have gone back to read that essay more than once to remind myself of the path you found to peace and to find my own.

I'm one of those annoying readers who has been benefitting from reading your wonderful writing for several months now, and have never left a comment. I'm sorry. My sister in law, A. Long, actually introduced me to both yours and Nie's blog, and I think I have been changed since. Another reader of yours who is a friend of mine has talked with me at length about how both of us secretly wish we could both be part of the Clark family. You guys are awesome in every way, and provide the best laughs just when we need them. Now what can we do about pulling the Jolly Porter back out of his cave? . . .
