Plenty of cures for morning sickness on the market. I would say it's best to stay natural. Lot's of women find if they manage to eat the nausea goes away quicker. One thing is for sure, different things work for different people.

It was so lovely to read your post. I am pregnant with my second and at 18 weeks still doing morning(all-day) sickness. People like to pity my situation but I think the 9 months of difficulties is so worth getting to have another person come and live at my house. And having a my one year old bring me my spew bucket and cover me over with a blanket is wonderful!

I could never take anything either...I think I tried once for a week but it just made me worry the whole time, and gave me a whole new set of symptoms.
There is no way around it...it will be over before you know it. I found Vitamin B6 helped take the edge off, for whatever that is worth.

A new study came out that showed babies born to mamas who had nasty morning sickness ended up with higher IQs, memory and language skills. So you may get even more than glory--your little one may end up smarter thanks to your puking.

ps--I'm a pediatrician and friends with Jeremy. I, too, think he is about the greatest thing around.

pps--I'm sure you've tried it, but Zofran was the only thing that kept me going. If you do try it, buy it at Costco. WAY cheaper.

Morning sickness stinks... In a way, I enjoy morning sickness because I know the pregnancy is continuing and the baby is growing. (After 3 early losses, I reminded myself of this every day.)

I ended up using the situation (as I'm leaned over, worshiping the porcelain throne) as a learning tool. I can't tell you how many times my daughter caught me puking.
So I told her, "we ONLY throw up in the toilet."

Next time she got sick, she had the knowledge to go to the toilet. She missed, but hey, it was on the easily-cleaned floor.

Good luck...(I've never posted on someone's blog I don't know...it's an odd feeling).

Eight weeks here...and the nausea is just starting to get bad. The best thing I find is to eat lots of small meals throughout the day, high protein snacks, etc. Even keep something on your nightstand to get something in your stomach before you get up.

Zofran, Emend, etc etc are anti-nauseants indicated for chemo induced nausea. Use for morning sickness is considered off label, and insufficient data exists on the safety of these medications in pregnancy. SO, I don't blame you for skipping the meds.

Good luck with the morning sickness. I'm one that experienced it with each pregnancy and you're right: it is all worth it once they come. P.S. As a past editor for a magazine, a part-time editor for a few books, and a journalism grad, I feel pretty qualified to tell you that you are an incredible writer. I see that you mentioned that you do not take anything for morning sickness as nothing has worked. I am not sure if somebody has written this alreaady but have you tried Zofran? I am on my 4th pregnancy right now and it has been my reliable companion many a times! I am 12 weeks right now so I appreciate sharing in the "joys" of pregnancy with you! Good Luck!

I have four children. When I was oh so very sick with the first one, I remember wonder how I would handle a child and be so sick at the same time. When I was oh so even more sick with the second pregnancy, my daughter would stand by the toilet and smack me in the head with the lid while I heaved into it! "So this is how you handle it," I thought. Like you, I tried everything (that seemed reasonably safe)and nothing seemed to help. But, as another person commented, Unisom at bedtime did help the next day more than anything else I tried.

"There are two additional vitamins that have pretty much been forgotten. A study published in 1952 described the very positive benefits obtained by moms who consumed relatively small amounts of vitamin C and vitamin K. IN fact, the report showed that 91% of the women (64 out of 70 women) who used these vitamins "...reported complete disappearance of morning sickness within three days." Three of the women studied reported that they had no improvement at all. It seems that the study has all but been forgotten because I never heard about using vitamins C and K for morning sickness."

Oh morning sickness is just so cruel. I had it with four of my six pregnancies and tried every natural remedy under the sun. The one that worked the best for me was putting cans of peaches in heavy syrup in the refrigerator. When the nausea hit, I would open a can, pour the juice in a glass and drink it. Sometimes, I could even choke down a few of the peaches. At least the baby was getting some nutrition right??? Oh and there's nothing quite like having an audience of little ones watching you hurl! Yay!

I am so sorry about the morning sickness. I had it my entire first pregnancy, so trust me I understand. It does get better though!

As for the scary diaper changes, I had one day where my 1.5 yr old got some sort of GI problem and just the image of the poo coming out of her diaper made me toss my cookies. 4 times. In the 10 feet between us and the toilet. I made my husband come home early. That was a few months ago, I am almost in 3rd trimester and the biggest problem I have now is the chase and tackle to get her diaper changed.

Wow, look at all the people who love and worry about you! I have yet to enter into motherhood and I think my hubs and I have awhile. However, reading your (beautifully written) blog and your sister's I get so excited about when the time comes. I will rejoice in those miserable times, I will fervently pray for peace of mind, and I will know that God's mercy is covering me and it is new each morning (as well as the nausea). I was so very sick with my last baby. What helped the most was eating, no matter how little I felt like it, PROTEIN every two hours. And 9 hours of sleep, plus one nap. Which of course was impossible but worth shooting for. The constant protein really helps your stomach cope with the overproduction of acids.

I have been pregnant five times...the fourth time I thought I was lucky because I wasn't getting sick. That one ended in a miscarriage. My OB said nausea is often a sign of a healthy pregnancy. My fifth pregnancy, I have never been more grateful for each and every time I vomited! That blessed wave of sickness every morning meant (to me) that my baby was growing healthy and strong.
